Here is the bet. Frank Thomas of the Jays and Jose Reyes of the Mets are going to have a race. Jose starts off from home plate, but Thomas gets a 10 foot head start down the 1st baseline.
Before the race your friend bets you that Reyes can't get home before Thomas gets to third. Do you take the action for $1000? There are no tricks, it's just a straight up race around the basepaths. A gun will start the race, and as noted, Thomas has a 10 foot lead. |

Yeah, but if Frank can get in his way enough around first base so that Frank can somehow touch first base first, then maybe Frank can win?

Its 90 ft between bases right?
So Thomas has to run 260 ft before Reyes runs 360? I have to think Thomas would win that one. |

There's at least a 35% chance that Thomas blows a hamstring, take this into account.

Plus the players are running more than 90ft between bases.

Obviously, Reyes can run through home, but does Frank have to "stop" at third (like you would in a game)? If he has to slow up and stay on the bag, Reyes has to have the advantage. Even if Thomas just has to run through third, it's close.
