My apparent inability to dump top pair, even on a horrid flop....
$1/2 Live at Venetian, playing for six hours, but just changed tables so I had only been playing for about 5 hands, and I get a black AK os in MP, I make it $12 to go and a girl in the Hhijack calls, along with the BB.
Flop Ah Qh 7h Doh! No good, but after BB checks I decide to bet out $15...and the girl RR to $35...BB folds, and I sloppily call. Turn 10d I check, girl bets $45....we both had about $200 left, and I have no idea what possessed me to call, other than the fact that I had been missing flops and dumping medium hands all night, and I just didnt want to let it go. River : Jc I instachecked as the river was dealt, and she sucked her teeth at the four straight on the board (which I now held) and checked. What in the world possessed me to call these bets, other than donkness? The only reason I'm posting this is to get berated for insisting on seeing another heart, as if the river was a blank and she bet something like $60 how in the world could I call? |

Re: My apparent inability to dump top pair, even on a horrid flop....
I checked because people have the uncanny ability to flop flushes in raised pots against me, and she definitely represented a flush on the flop and turn.
Also, i checked as the card came out before the realization that I had a straight was made, i was hoping it would prevent another big bet, but now that I think about it is that play (autochecking) more likely to induce a bluff/big bet, or not? Thanks guys Yeah the Lux is awesome |

The chicken gumbo there is AMAZING. Also they have like some beef dish, with Jamaican sauce (or maybe it was beens). Oh man that was great.

Re: My apparent inability to dump top pair, even on a horrid flop....
i didnt explain it too well before but my point was that if your calling a flop raise AND a turn bet on that board, then you should never be checking this river when you hit your miracle straight card. based on the way youve played the hand so far you treat your hand as the nuts on the river.
because if you're afraid of the flush on the river then what were doing the rest of the hand? |
