Over 13 hours and no responce from Oliver! [/ QUOTE ] it often seems as if Oliver is projecting his wishes more than the reality, its a warped view of Chinese politics IMHO - but I admit I'm out of the loop for 4 years now so I could be wrong. Briefly I represented the HKTDC (Hong Kong Trade Development Council) as their mouthpiece in the states, unfortunately we were not awarded the permanent contract or I'd be a lot richer today - thats where my inside knowlege comes from. Its important to note that the Venetian is about to open, nobody knows yet if they will or will not offer poker (I'd take the under since Ackerman has never turned a profit with a poker room so far). Also the place designed to look like a lotus leaf will have poker when it opens, I think thats a Stanley Ho casino if my memory is correct - I forgot the name however. |

[/ QUOTE ] The only "poker" games you will find in Macau are stupid pit games, such as Caribbean Stud. All that Chinese gamblers care about is baccarat. If you are in Macau, your closest chance of finding any poker games is actually in Hong Kong. Some of the Westerners and ex-pats are known to host an occasional home game, but that's about it. The biggest problem in HK, however, is that people have small apartments and generally tend to avoid having people over. Also, while you are in Macau you may want to go to some of the bars near the waterfront (South-East area) in Lan Kwai Fong. All the ex-pats hang-out there after work. They are all bored and easily approachable. It's easy to spot them because they are usually in groups. Most of them actually work for casinos. So, just approach them and ask them if they know of any private games. Those guys are not gamblers, they just work for casinos, but they are your best bet in terms of source of information. |

[/ QUOTE ] That's the Grand Lisboa hotel casino. It's already open (actually it opened for business while it was still under construction) but they do not have poker, except Caribbean Stud. I very much doubt that they will ever have poker because baccarat is just too popular... and too profitable. No one in Macau has even heard of poker. The concept of players betting against each other is totally lost on them. |

They will have poker. The grand opening is planned soon. |

Ah, OK, that's big news, then. It will be interesting to see how it develops.
PS - I guess this is the official "Grand Opening," then, because the place had been in fact open for several months. |

[/ QUOTE ] soft opening was in February, grand opening is soon. My friend is opening a club there, he works for MGM in Vegas now but the amount of money that they are paying him is too good not to switch to Maccau. |
