marginal spot $109 AKo in SB
I'm trying to learn how to be a good tournament player at the moment for a change of pace (noramlly a NL cash game player)...
62 people left, 36 cash - tourney started with ~400. I don't really care about cashing all that much unless I get to the final table. blinds 400-800, 75 ante. I have an above avg. stack of ~25k. CO who barely covers me and is playing pretty tight opens to 3200. I have AKo in the SB (BB is playing tight with 12k chips). What's the play? Notes on CO: He is a calling station. I've seen him CC then call a squeeze with TT, AQ, etc. 1 round before, there was an early loose raiser and 3 callers (including him), and I pushed an M of about 7 w/ 46o from the BB. Everyone folded to this guy who called with AQs and I won the hand. Is this a good spot to call and see a flop as I don't really want a race situation? On the other hand, he may call me with AQ again or even something worse because of the hand before... |

Because he made it 4BBs to go PF (not to mention your read on the guy), I think that makes this an easy shove PF.

i think because of the fact that a) you're oop b) he's a calling station c) AK often does not play well after flop... this is a shove

Open shove is less exploitable and not bad here.
I like 8K to go and jamming all flops too. Since you have seen him call off a bunch of chips w/ AQ a couple of times jamming is probably better. Regards, Woodguy |

Re: marginal spot $109 AKo in SB
Thanks for responses. Just making sure... When I thought about it as I went to bed I realized I had to shove because his calling range was so redic.
In the heat of the battle, I thought he would have a pair and call me, which is what happened (he had 77). I lost. oh well... I'll try to participate in this forum more often now that I'm trying to make myself a better tourney player. |
