Default Winamp problems

Whenever I go to open up Winamp, I get the not responding thing and the option to send the error report window. So I tried updating it, and it can't install the nsvdec_vp6.dll file for some reason or another. I tried rolling back a version and it couldn't instill a different file. Any solution?

This may or may not work. Try uninstalling, then reinstalling.

I just downloaded and tried to install the one without the mp3 bundle. When it gets to around Installing Sonic RunTime or something like that (it's like this on each version I try to install) I got a different error: Extract: error writing to file vis_avs.dll. I seem to get a different type of file error for each version so far.

Just checking:

You are running the install as an administrator?

Is this your personal machine? Or a work machine. If the latter, group policy settings may be screwing you up.

Make sure Winamp isn't running when you install. Check the system tray, and make sure it's completely shut down. If it's running, it probably has the dll file the install is trying to replace open, which is preventing it from working.

Maybe try something other than Winamp. There's lots of apps that will play sound files. If winamp doesn't work, try something else.

Personal machine, I am on admin. I've never had any problems updating Winamp before, and it has always worked on my computer until just recently.

I just went try to install it again, and this time I got a different one. Extract: error writing to file sv_architectimage_256.bmp. Wth Winamp.

Check the processes in task manager and make sure you don't have a winAmp process running when you run the install. Possibly you have an instance of WinAmp running that's got those files open. Otherwise, I haven't a clue what might be going on.

start > run > type reg edit

go to hkey_local machine > software > nullsoft > winamp

delete the registry and see if that works.

if not, boot in safemode then uninstall winamp.

Winamp is not running when I try to install it. I have it uninstalled, so it cannot be running.

When I type in reg edit, a black screen comes up for a brief second, then it goes away.
