Not sure how this all works, but I had a 10 dollar exacta box that paid me back 509. Like I said, I have no idea.

That's incorrect. Win/Place/Show bets are for $2 bets. Exotic payouts are for $1 bets.

I haven't been to the track in a while but I'm pretty sure they display all prices for $2 wagers, not $1.
