Very 1st hand of a 45 player SnG on PokerStars.
Blinds are 10/20 and I am in the BB w/ AA. The action folds to the button who raises to 100. (my 1st impression was he was trying to steal the blinds.) The SB calls. I raise to 200. The button then raises to 1000, and the SB pushes all in. Without thinking I push all in, feeling euphoric. I figure even if someone has QQ and KK I am still about 70% to win. It will cost me another $1300 for a pot that will probably have $3000, since I figure the button will go all in too. In hindsight, I figure I am getting good odds with the chance to triple up early at the risk of getting knocked out real quick and losing any chance, I am a solid player that is usually in the money. I was counting on the usual loose players early on. Anyone think this is too much gambling, with a lot of poker to play. |

If you don't like gambling, maybe you should consider chess?

The best way to avoid this in the future is to stop playing poker right now.
Hope this helps... Edit: With very few exceptions, the only time to fold any hand is when we believe we are not ahead. What exactly might we behind to here? ALWAYS get as many chips as possible into the middle while you're ahead. Always. Sorry about all the smartass comments this will generate, don't let it discourage you. Keep studying and posting here, and soon enough you will be the smartass jumping on the guy making this post. Welcome to the forum... |

The only time I can think to fold AA preflop is if you are already in the money and by folding you are guaranteed to move up at least one spot (and we'd have to be talking about a lot of money)
Also if it is the first hand of a tournament it is very very unlikley anyone is trying to steal blinds. It just simply isn't worth it that early on. Also I don't care for your reraise very much, I would raise to at least 400. |

Fold your aces face up. That'll let people know you're a serious player.
This thread is a joke, right? |

I thought the only time to fold was if it was tourney end and it was a question of placing in the money.
SB flipped QQ, BB flopped KK. Flop: Q5K T: 6 R: 7 |
