Potawatomi trip report
Yesterday (Wednesday) a friend and I went to Potawatomi in Milwaukee. Him for slots, me for poker (he doesn't grasp the concept of EV.) I had been there once before, in August of 2005.
There were several NL games going, and a few lhe games going, with 4/8 being the biggest. I saw several UB shirts and PokerStars hats, which I interpreted as a good sign. My gues is the NL games were fabulous. I get on the 3/6 and 4/8 lists, and the interest lists for 6/12 and 8/16. I try to get on the 10/20 and 30/60 interest lists, but she tells me there is no way those games will run today. When I look up at the board, I see that the 30/60 goes on Tuesdays at "high noon". Apparently I have entered the wild west. I go play dumb slots for about 30 minutes and come back to the poker room right as a 3/6 seat opens. I take it and post UTG+2. I then realize that it is a "kill", with the kill being posted to my immediate left. I pull my post back but then decide to post anyway, as I am there for gambooooooooool. I get the T2o and check. The kill (some guy who is at least 102 years old) raises, I announce that I never fold ever and call. At this point the dealer says "We've got a donkey at the table. This guy just said he never folds." A lesser man would have commented on her acne scars, but I just giggled. Old man shows KK after I insta-muck a flop of AK9. After 45 minutes in that game they start a 6/12 game. They have $2 chips. I was relieved to learn this. The game was a little tighter than I thought it would be, although it was still good. The postflop play was horrible. Everyone was friendly and appeared to be a regular. I witnessed the following exchange between seat 9 and seat 6 (I was in seat 8): 6: Haven't seen ya here in a while. 8: Yeah, I just was getting cold cards all the time so I took a few months off. I enjoyed this. Seat 8 let me sweat his limped AK and AQs a few times. He just never could flop anything. His raise button was broken apparently as well. I kept telling him, "Those are tough hands to play." I didn't know what else to say. Potawatomi has the galactically retarded rule of not allowing ipods. I did not press the dealers on the rationale for this, as they likely don't know or care, they just know/enforce the rule. The floor guy I spoke to said they don't like anything electronic near the table games. They didn't tell me I couldn't have the ipod IN the casino, but that I just couldn't use it. So, my ipod was NEAR all the table games. They are dumb. Some hands: 3/6 I raise AJs blind calls. flop AJ8 bet, i raise, call. turn: 8 check. I bet, call. river: A bet, i raise, he 3town, i 4town, he call. The entire table thinks it is a chop, including the dealer. I explain that I want the dollars. After a short stint of confusion, I indeed get the dollars. 6/12 I raise the bad mutha (K9) in MP because it is a bad mutha. 2 non-believers coldcall and a blind calls. flop:994 I bet the flop and win it witih a turn bet. I flash a 9 for fun. A guy who I think I recognize from my Potawatomi trip a year and a half ago (His name is Paul. He must be in his late 50's. He's a lawyer. He wears an absurd pinky ring with some dumb stones in it.) starts to speculate about what I could have had with my 9 that I was raising with. He is speaking to the mullet-having guy next to him, but it is loud enough that I can hear it across the table. The very next hand I pick up AQo and raise again, mullet coldcalls, Paul coldcalls and says "well I can beat a 9 so I call." I say, "But can you beat two nines?" He says "yes". flop: T24 I bet, mullet folds, Paul calls, blinds fold. turn huhu: 3 I check, Paul bets, I call. river: 9 check, Paul bets, I look at him and decide he needs to be called. I say "I better call". He says "Nothing", and flips over KJo. Everyone looks at me expecting to see two Kings or something. When I roll AQo and place a chip on my cards for the dealer, it is clear that most are in shock. "Nice call" one guy says, likely thinking I am a damn fool. Paul no longer speculated about what I held. I played for about 3 hours. Dumped $40 in the 3/6 and won $120 in the 6/12. They room is pretty nice, and I think the chips are cool. |

Re: Potawatomi trip report
I went to Potty a couple weeks ago. Had a good time despite dropping $200 at the 3-6 (don't ask). Andrew Bogut was playing the 3-5 NL game - I asked around and he's somewhat of a regular. He did not make any obscene gestures that I know of while there.

You just need to move away from the table while you use it. They changed the rule of NO PHONES a few months ago. |

Re: Potawatomi trip report
Dont try to use or carry a laptop through there. Boy was I pissed. No one in the whole casino (player or employee) could see any reason why a non-gambling companion (wife) would want to use a COMPUTER! in a CASINO!

Last time I was there, which was quite a while ago, I thought my son and I were going to be back roomed for using a cell phone. We were not in the room or even on the casino floor. We were out in a hallway somewhere. |

[/ QUOTE ] Same rule in Harrah's Kansas City, I havent gotten a good reason for it either - I prefer the rule though as I have seen those that havent been able to use them get bored very soon and go from solid to terrible, I dont ever use an iPod so I dont mind the rule but it would be nice for it to be explained |

Re: Potawatomi trip report
Is the small blind for 6/12 $2, $3, or $4?
