Good Restaurant near Broadway in NYC
Hey Everyone,
I'm going to see Avenue Q with some family in two weeks. Anyone have any good restaurant recommendations near the theaters (say in the $50 or so per person range, but somewhat flexible on that). Thanks, Jeff |

Re: Good Restaurant near Broadway in NYC
I went to Ruth's Chris a couple weeks ago before a show. Steak was excellent, sides were alright, service was average for something in that price range (about $75pp). I checked out chowhound.com for recommendations beforehand and used opentable.com to make reservations. Good luck.

Re: Good Restaurant near Broadway in NYC
On 46th betweeen 8th and 9th is referred to as "Restaurant Row". I particularly liked Capri, which had quite good food and was pretty reasonable price-wise. It has a traditional italy feel, whereas Puttanesca (9th and 53rd or so) has a more fun atmosphere. Cascina (9th & about 45th) is good, although one time I went there with my GF and parents the waiter was beyond flamboyant. He acted as though he was supposed to entertain us instead of just bring the food. They do make some of their own wine there, and their selection is great overall.
If you don't want italian, I like Tiny Thai (also on 9th) which is a bit trendy, but good. Edit to add: I saw Avenue Q not long ago, I liked it despite not being real into broadway/musicals. Though there are a lot of jokes that would make me uncomfortable to see with family. Just be warned. Hope this helps, Jon |

EDIT: I actually went here when I went to Avenue Q last summer and it was one of the closest (and still recommended) restaurants to the actual theater. |

Re: Good Restaurant near Broadway in NYC
Becco is a good Italian place on Restaurant Row (46th & 8th); it's a lower-priced cousin of Felidia, a very good East Side Italian. I think they still have a well-priced (around $25) prix fixe with all-you-can eat pasta (usually three options). Kind of an Olive Garden concept, but lots classier and with much better food.
Virgil's barbecue is good and plentiful, but it can be a mob scene on weekends. If you don't mind walking a few blocks, I like Thalia on 50th and 8th. New American-type food, good drinks and raw bar, great fancy herbed fries. If you're looking to get genteely trashed, Cite (by Rockefeller Center) is a decent steakhouse (not as good as Luger, Sparks, Palm, etc., but pretty good) with a $69 all-you-can drink wine dinner. Three courses, they pour some good stuff, and they're not stingy about refills. Blue Fin on Broadway right in Times Square is a good seafood place, pretty hip and classy, but it might be a little above $50 per. My favorite place in the area was McHale's on 46th & 9th. It had the best burgers in the city but closed last year. |
