On the last Circuit, Matusow said Ivey told him that there is no such thing as running bad, only playing bad.
I just don't see how people who have had really bad runs in the past would say something like that. It seems to me that the only was Ivey can say something like that if he has never run bad. Is it possible? Is it possible that Ivey just has been running extremely well for the last 6 years? |

i have no stats to back this up...i see that the more skilled players try as much as possible to minimize the luck factor, but sometimes, it's not possible to do...
u can argue how bad the downswings are with some players, but imo, everyone is gonna have rough stretches...i can't see anyone playing well for 6 years anyway... |

they just say stuff like that because it helps them keep the mindset that they have complete control
nobody can deny math |

he actually said in an interview that some player was single handedly keeping him broke at 75-150 when he was building his bankroll in AC... and he said it had nothing to do with luck, it was just how the cards were falling at the time...
so he recognizes that ppl lose, it just doesnt faze him as a lossing streak if he's playing correctly |

It's probably playing bad when you lose 10 coin-flips in a row.

RUNNING BAD
i think this is much more prevelant in NL/PL games. you do have many choices and plays that you can make to change your outcome. as far as limit games go, i think running bad is very possible due to the limited control you have over your opponent. |

It's obviously a mindset. So many people on here will lose over 20K hands in NL and automatically blame it on variance... it's too easy to put the blame on luck.
The mindset helps them play their A-game more often, and not be afraid to analyze what is happening when they are losing. |
