Someone decided to make a list of all the non-game related things Vitale talked about during the UConn/Louisville game on Monday. It turned out to be a pretty long list.

That is awesome.
I hate Dick Vitale and wish he'd shut the hell up about Duke. It only makes everyone hate us more. |

Bynum and Telfair shouldn't be on the list, since they originally committed to UConn and Louisville respectively. Other than that, that it pretty funny.

I'm not a real hardcore fan, but it seems to me that commentary is in general superfluous. As far as "just calling the game" goes, how often do you really need those guys there to tell you what's going on? The occasional rule clarification or discussion of relevant penalties (more of an issue in football) is helpful, but most of the time it's pretty much dead air to me anyways. (The other exception that occurs to me is when some huge play is happening and the announcer has time to get all amped up about it. That frequently improves things.)

[/ QUOTE ] A good color guy can make good comments if he knows the game. For example, he can comment on how a defense is always forcing a guard to drive to his left - or how a post up man is waiting too long to make his move to the basket allowing the defense to react. If you know the game, which Vitale does not, there are a lot of sublte things happening that a person can mention during a game. Vitale sucks. (I was planning on doing somehting similar to this list, but couldn't take 2 hours of Vitale.) |

can you really count his play-by-play partner on this list?

Awesome. My buddy and I were watching the game Monday and during one of his speeches about cancer and autism, I remarked that they really didn't need a basketball analyst to do the job Vitale was doing.
I still love the guy, though. -McGee |

Vitale is one of the great hypocrisies in my life. I hate bad color guys, but I love Vitale.
