First date etiquette
Posted on behalf of my Cute cousin (girl)... very independant but dude in this scenario knows she is traditional.
Dude asked her out to dinner... nothing serious but it was a prescribed "date". Dude started out the date opening doors for her and she returned the favor. Nice dinner, good conversation, flirtatious... Dude asks for the bill... bill comes... she reaches for wallet in an attempt to pay and offers to split the check. 100 thoughts race through his head... he decides to accept her offer of a split. Now she's pissed and date two is in jeopardy. Im guessing the dudes thoughts... they are both college students and don't make a ton of money... Dude keeps getting it rammed down his throat at his liberal school about how equal girls want to be. Was his play totally asinine??? |

Re: First date etiquette
I would say bad move on his part, but it is irritating that girls want to be equal and all, but when the check comes, they get all pissed if the guy doesn't pay.

Re: First date etiquette
Why would she reach for her wallet if she didn't want to split? I know it's a mind game, but tell your cousin that course of action was unnecessary.

Re: First date etiquette
Dude should have rejected her offer to pay half and made a vague comment about letting her get the bill some other time. Whether she actually pays later or not he should be able to gauge after future dates. Some girls might actually want to pay their share, but first date if you asked her you should pay.
Your cousin should not have made the offer to pay her share if she was going to be upset that he took her up on it. If she didn't want to pay half she should have just said thanks. Joe |

I'm a pretty black and white guy... and I told my cousin this was rookie fckkking move... However, but since I always pay... I would have just told her to put her wallet away and I'd get the check. So, I've never actually been in this situation. |
