[ QUOTE ] analytic number theory diophantine approximation TA for Calc 1 and 3rd year logic course. [/ QUOTE ] i didn't even know they offer those kind of [censored] classes can you explain concisely what they are? [/ QUOTE ] Analytic number theory - Uses the tools of real and complex analysis (think functions like in calculus defined but defined over the real or complex numbers) to study properties of the integers and prime numbers. Mostly we're interested in using asymptotic (big-O) analysis to study the growth and distribution of prime numbers. Example, roughly how many primes numbers are there that are less than a given number. Diophantine approximation - We try to approximate irrational numbers by rational numbers. For example, how "close" is the number pi to a rational number. They're both grad courses but don't require a lot of prerequisites. |
