Loose steal attempt gets 3-bet
Fairly early in session. I have a couple of players down as probably LPPs, but they have folded already preflop. The rest of the table has been tight so far, so I decided to go for a steal here.
Party Poker Limit Holdem Ring game Limit: $0.25/$0.5 10 players Converter Pre-flop: (10 players) Hero is MP3 with A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5 folds, Hero raises, CO folds, Button calls, SB 3-bets, BB folds, Hero calls, Button calls. Flop: A[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (10SB, 3 players) SB bets, Hero raises, Button folds, SB calls. Not sure about this raise. I took the opportunity to get the button out. If I'm 3-bet I call and probably c/f the turn UI. Turn: 3[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (7BB, 2 players) SB checks, Hero checks. Check behind here good? River: 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (7BB, 2 players) What's a good plan for the river? Bet if checked to, or call one bet? Comments welcome on all of this hand, as I'm not 100% sure of most decisions in this hand. |

Preflop raise is loose, but it's fine.
I don't like the flop raise unless you bet the turn. But instead of a flop raise, I like WA/WB. As you played it, call if bet into and bet-fold if checked to. |

Re: Loose steal attempt gets 3-bet
HJ is usually too early for me to play a weak offsuit ace, but with reads of tightness behind you, I can live with it.
On the flop, I like the raise. SB could be donking an 8 or 9 or a draw. Your raise is potentially for value and folding the Button is definitely a plus. On the turn, I bet again. If SB is drawing, I'd rather make him pay now (which he will) than let him draw for free and only get a bet out of him if he hits. If you bet the turn, I'd probably just check behind on the river since you may not have the best hand and if he was drawing, he won't pay you off. As played, he may bluff a missed draw or donk a pair if he held one on the flop, so yeah, I'd call one if he bets and bet if checked to. |

Re: Loose steal attempt gets 3-bet
What do you put SB on?
If he has an ace, he's got either A2-5 - those you beat. A6 you chop. A7 he beats you but might be scared to bet. A8-9 he would definitely 3bet the flop. AT+ he would probably lead the turn figuring that you were trying to steal with a weak ace(?). At least I would... Any other pair you beat and if he has 89 he definitely 3bety you and leads the turn. So, I would think that you're in relatively good shape here and bet the turn. If I get raised, I either fold or call down if I don't quite believe him (but I probably would). I'd bet/call the river. |

Reads? A read on SB would be very helpful. But as it is, I'd say your A is good. Bet the Turn, fold to a c/r. Bet the River any card other than a K,Q,J, or T. |

Re: Loose steal attempt gets 3-bet
i like the flop-raise if it means villain will check to us on the turn. we're ahead of very few three-betting hands (zero of which are aces) so our goal should be to get to showdown as cheaply as possible. i totally agree with aaron that we're WA/WB here so unless you know for sure villain will stop to check/raise the turn, just call it down barring an ugly board.

Re: Loose steal attempt gets 3-bet
Serious question:
How often does villain 3-bet the flop with AK or AQ here in a blind stealing situation? I think you're right that it would be better to go into WA/WB and betting the River would be spew. I'm just asking for a guesstimate from your experience. |

[/ QUOTE ] I would take a call/call/call line if it wasn't for button or on a drier board, but with him there, and a 98 and a twoflush on the board, I like the raise. We have a reasonable opportunity to protect against his gutshots, and those gutshots will be plentiful. |

Re: Loose steal attempt gets 3-bet
i'd say any villain aggressive enough to three-bet from the small blind pre-flop with AK or AQ would bet/three-bet this flop roughly 90% of the time (in my experience). which is why i generally think WA/WB is right unless this player will get tricky on us, in which case we should take up their offer to give us a discounted showdown.
betting the river might not be too bad if they're loose enough to call with TT and [censored] but i think checking the turn is a must. bbbushu |
