Default awkward hand w/ a flopped full

i'm waiting for my game to get going, and i sweated this hand w/ a friend of mine.

2-5 NL

we're in the HJ w/ 9 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ($1400)

a tight/not aggressive player opens for $20 UTG+1 ($1200)

i wouldnt call him passive- he'll value bet his hands, and make an occasional play or push, but he's not what i would call an aggressive player.

MP calls, and my friend calls.

everyone else folds.

Flop

3 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]3 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

UTG+1 bets $60, MP folds, my friend raises to $180, UTG+1 calls

Turn

J [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

UTG+1 checks, my friend checks behind

River
Q [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]

UTG+1 pushes all-in

my first thought was what a terrible turn check he made, then I thought maybe it was a great play, trying to make it look like he wanted a cheap showdown. i dont know what the right play there was.

on the river- facing the huge overbet- i know i would have beat him in the pot, but what do you guys think?

When your opponent calls your flop raise he likely has an overpair that will not fold. You should be the turn, to make the pot bigger for your river bet.

checking the turn is horrible.

Gracious sakes alive, I find that turn check to be terrible, and I suck at No Limit. Villain here called a 3x raise on the flop, so he has to have something. I don't think the question is whether or not your friend should have bet or checked the turn. I think the question is how much can he bet and still expect a call given the action?

i dont understand the turn check, i think we woould all be able to comment better if he said WHY he checked the turn. it's either an overpair check/calling, or its an overpair check/raising allin, and we are paying off JJ.

i fold the river if i trust my read. if i dont have a feel for how frequently he pushes and bluffs and does retarded stuff, i snap call.

the nice thing about live play is that you can get away from hands like this, because even the straightforward marginals are so easy to read.
