Default Middle Pair No Kicker

Am I being too aggressive here with only 2nd pair and an overcard on the flop?

Flop bet is close, but it's actually an easy check/fold. Turn raise and river bet are spew. Now who is going to call on the river with a worse hand? This is more a less a bluff against 5 opponents.

Yeah, I think it may well suck. I probably do that too often, mistakenly trying to 'protect my hand'.

Consider the number of players and the coordination of the board. These variables determine your hand just as much as your holecards.

Ok, this hand comes from our session review (we're not on Aussies list 'cause we were too late). My reaction to his hand was that betting the flop wasn't going to protect his hand since he was giving 5 to 1 odds which are enough for a good draw (OESD / FD) to call anyways.

Now it's true that merely checking might be weak (I know I'm too weak postflop) and giving a free card to the OESD is indeed a bigger mistake then just betting out. My primary concern would then be if this hand has enough value to bet?

The turn raise got me puzzled when reviewing this hand for the first time. Especially because there was already an overcard to his jack on the flop and the 9 on the turn could have filled someones draw. In my humble opinion this turn raise was chip spew.

On a side-note: As well as for Joujou, this was my first attempt at session review, and I think Joujou agrees when I say session reviews are a great way to learn more.

Yeah, the session review's great, I recommend it. Don't know why I've never done it before.
