2006 Emmy Awards
Well, looks like OOT did a pretty good job guessing the winners.
Here's the full Emmy Scorecard Best Drama - 24 Best Comedy - The Office (sweet) Best Miniseries - Elizabeth I (which must be good cause Bleak House owns) Best MFT - The Girl in the Cafe (Kelly MacDonald is hot) Best Reality - Amazing Race Best Variety Program* - Jon Stewart Show Best Actor Drama - Kiefer Sutherland; 24 Best Actress Drama - Mariska Hartigay; L&O SVU Best Supporting Actor Drama - Alan Alda; West Wing Best Supporting Actress Drama - Blythe Danner; Huff Best Actor Comedy - Tony Shaloub; Monk (why does he always win?) Best Actress Comedy - Julia Louis-Dreyfuss; New Adventures of Old Christine (WTF?) Best Supporting Actor Comedy - Ari; Entourage Best Supporting Actress Comedy - Megan Mullaly; W&G Comments, thoughts? -Al *My buddy, who is Indian, was at the Emmys. After it ended, he was waiting for his limo and saw Colbert, who was also nominated in this category. He's a huge fan so requested a photo. With no prompting, Colbert, for the shot, pointed at my buddy in the classic Colbert "hey, I have <insert minority> friends" pose. Awesome. |

Re: 2006 Emmy Awards
Saw most of it. I think Conan did a great job, and the highlight in terms of presenters was definitely Colbert and Stewart.
On another note - can someone explain to me how Edie Falco didn't get nominated? She's the best television actress, possibly the best actress anywhere right now. |

Re: 2006 Emmy Awards
Edie Falco not being nominted was criminal. It has something to do with the new nomination/voting, but they really screwed up on this one. Anyone who watched the first few episodes of this season of "The Sopranos", and saw her performances in the "Tony in the hospital" episodes know that she was robbed.
"The Sopranos" wasn't nominated nearly enough. It, and Deadwood, have the strongest casts on TV by far. Also, how do you leave out "Lost" entirely>? |

Re: 2006 Emmy Awards
OTB - I'm not very familiar with the Emmy nomination process, but I was told that each series submits an episode (maybe 2) for review. Those unfamiliar with the series, and in a position to nominate a series for an Emmy, end up judging the series based on the strength of this particular episode. You can see how this process is somewhat flawed.
Horn - yeah, I haven't watched this series at all so I don't know, but I heard it's pretty terrible. -Al |

Re: 2006 Emmy Awards
Conan was funny, but the rest pretty much bored me and I turned the channel after an hour or so.

Re: 2006 Emmy Awards
I believe Monk is a big hit in the coveted 70 and older demographic.

Re: 2006 Emmy Awards
One of the funnier acceptance speeches was from a writer or a director (forget who or for what).
He said he was roommates with Conan. He said that they dreamt of Conan one day hosting the Emmys, and he winning one. And also of losing their virginity. "I hope it becomes true" or something like that. It was funny. Another was a writer or director with a list of people he didn't thank. He had good delivery. |
