aa vs someone better than myself (150bb stacks)
Guy is a good very aggressive TAG. He appeared to be 27/20 at the time, but later stats show to be 25/10. Still a little inconclusive. I'm almost embarressed to post this hand, but I really need to work on playing overpairs.
Only problem is my hand is a little transparent with the turn call. His river bet almost looks like a block, but why would a possible smaller overpair block this river when may be obvious I have one too? Wouldn't he be better off check/folding here with smaller overpairs, say 88-JJ. I could see betting with QQ/KK because he does have some showdown value and I could've been stubborn with TT/JJ myself but could make it hard for him if I bet big with AA. Looks more like a value bet after further reflection. I really don't want to be overrun by 30/20 types, but I'm not sure if this is the right spot to pick a stand. Raise flop, fold turn, fold river.
If you don't want to get run over, make a raise on the flop. |

Re: aa vs someone better than myself (150bb stacks)
I probably cant fold here but its probably right, an aggressive villain will raise qq-aa preflop and probably check 88-jj on river so you are looking at straight/set almost every time. I raise flop to see were I'm at/charge a straight draw.

Re: aa vs someone better than myself (150bb stacks)
Looks like I still got some work to do.
I thought the flop was the only decent part of the hand. Are you just raising to $90, planning on folding to more action? What if he calls the raise, leads a blankish turn? Do you ever worry about being blown off the best hand? Seems like I made the call down to try and avoid these situations with 150bb stacks. May be I shouldn't worry about all these odd situations that may arise with a raise and just take it one street at a time. |

I think I fold the turn, but you need to be very careful about aggressive players who might bet any board any try to push you off hands. If he is that kind of player I would raise the flop.

Re: aa vs someone better than myself (150bb stacks)
I don't see how you can call down here. Just about every conceivable hand at least has some random two pair, then there are all the sets, and obviously any 5. He has 88-JJ here like never.

Re: aa vs someone better than myself (150bb stacks)
i think u are not good here but u have to call considering how passive u played it.
i raise the flop to 100 and take it from there. |

Re: aa vs someone better than myself (150bb stacks)
Looks ok to me. Raising flop is also an option, but I'll play it this way more often then not. Sometimes I fold river here though, depends on whats going on at the table.
Edit: actually I'd probably fold the river as a standard line. All those pair+gutters on the flop got there. |

If you played the hand passively, then you let the draws get there easily, which villain will take as increasing your likelyhood of drawing or having a mediocre hand, which means he bluffs more, which means we need to call more, ect. ect. That's nothing like 'raise to find out where you're at', its just adjusting for villain's likely read of you. |
