NL600 6max QQ overpair
Villian is 28/8. About 1.5 AF flop/turn and 2.0 AF river after 250 hands. I suspect he's been running hot. Went to showdown 31% and won 58%. We had not really gotten into any big battles.
Total number of players : 6 Seat 1: A Seat 2: B Seat 3: C (sitting out) Seat 4: D Seat 5: Villian ( $600) Seat 6: Hero ( $606.40) *button A posts small blind (3) B posts big blind (6) Villian posts big blind (6) he just came into the game ** Dealing down cards ** Dealt to Hero [ Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] ] D folds. Villian raises (16) to 22 Hero raises (70) to 70 A folds. B folds. Villian calls (48) ** Dealing Flop ** : [ 6[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 9[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], 5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ] pot ~145 Villian checks. Hero bets (100) Villian calls (100) ** Dealing Turn ** : [ 8[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ] pot ~345 Villian checks. Re: NL600 6max QQ overpair
When we check this turn, we have to call the river, no?

When we check this turn, we have to call the river, no? [/ QUOTE ] you never HAVE to call ANY hand (except the nuts obviously). I lose to 55-TT, QQ-AA, any 2 pair (stuff like 89s), the backdoor flush. I beat JJ, a bluff/missed flush, single pair hands (like A9s, KTs - though I'm thinking he folds pf). To call I have to be right just a little under 1/3 of the time. Wondering what people think |

[ QUOTE ] When we check this turn, we have to call the river, no? [/ QUOTE ] you never HAVE to call ANY hand... [/ QUOTE ] You give a simplified read, I give my simplified thought. To quote Sklansky in ToP, Chapter 20 "Inducing and stopping bluffs", page 192: [ QUOTE ] If you are trying to induce a bluff and that player bets, then you MUST call. This principle is obvious, yet many go against it. [/ QUOTE ] Your turn check WILL induce a bluff frequently, from many players (you have played him, so only you can judge). I see enough possible holdings, to make a river call profitable, IF villain is the type of player who will bluff a missed draw or weak pair often enough. EDIT: [ QUOTE ] you never HAVE to call ANY hand (except the nuts obviously). [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, but this is sooo wrong... |

Re: NL600 6max QQ overpair
This is why I hate checking the turn in position. Villain could easily have been waiting for a C/R allin on turn or could have AK or missed pocket pair. I bet $150 on turn and check behind on river.
If villain raises turn or calls turn and leads on river, we're pretty sure we're beat. |

Re: NL600 6max QQ overpair
If opponent is predictable, I bet the turn.
If he is tricky, I check the turn behind, but I am prepared to call any reasonable bet on the river. |

Re: NL600 6max QQ overpair
I agree here if you check this turn it's to call a reasonable bet on the river - I think betting out the turn here is the best line IMO - you're giving him a free shot at it.
~ If you take the check route, I think you're probably beat vs his range if hes NOT bluff - very read dependant here. |
