Mid-west Poker Vacation
I am looking to take 2 days vacation this week and go somewhere in Iowa, Minnesota, Illinois for a poker holiday.
I live near Madison, Wi, so I dont want to spend all my time driving. I am wondering if anyone has a suggestion on where to go, I would like to be able to stay cheap and eat cheap. Any thoughts? I have heard that in De Moines there is a nice poker room with alot of action. I will like to play NL or if anyone knows of any tournements. |

[/ QUOTE ] Have you been to St. Croix Casino in Turtle Lake, WI? Good action on the weekends for sure. A competitve, but winable tourney saturday at noon and okay hotels rates. If you're looking to leave WI, your best bet is Canterbury Park in Shakopee, MN. No NLHE like WI but always a game 24/7. Plus betting the ponies can be fun. |

Re: Mid-west Poker Vacation
I believe Canterbury has restrictions on betting amounts and therefore do not spread NL. I'm not 100% sure, but make sure to check on that before you head there if you want to play NL.

[/ QUOTE ] Correct. MN is limit/spread only because of the 60 per bet rule. 30/60 limit HE is the largest game at CP (or in the state). They have NLHE tourneys during the week. DO NOT PLAY THE SUNDAY MORNING LIMIT TOURNEY - waste of money and time. |

[/ QUOTE ] Minnesota law limits bets to $60, so 30/60 is the biggest game they can spread. They do have NL tournaments, which are listed on their web site. |

Re: Mid-west Poker Vacation
Majestic Star in Gary Indiana had a deal where poker players get special rate on rooms. I am not sure if that still have it here is the number to the card room 219-977-7444. Between Majestic Star & Resorts East Chicago down the road there is plenty of action.

Re: Mid-west Poker Vacation
The poker room in Des Moines is at Prairie Meadows. Usually pretty good 2/5 NL game(s) going. They have a Thursday NL tournament here's the details
Thursdays at 6:30pm $100 buy in $10 Entry Fee $5 Dealer Tip Each player will receive $2,500 in tournament chips Now there is an Indian Casino close by in Tama also but lately it has been very dead, maybe one to two games going. And after midnight I have seen it down to one game in the whole room. Tama does have Tournaments on Wednesday and Thursday, but the blinds go up way to fast and it's a crap shot in the end. Now I'm actually heading to your neck of the woods this weekend and I'm playing at St. Croix Casino on Saturday night then playing at Treasure Island in MN on Sunday. HD03King |

Re: Mid-west Poker Vacation
You can stay at Majestic Star (Trump) for $69 per night w/ the internet coupon ( link ). You can then play there or drive 5 mins to Resorts and play. The hotel rooms at majestic are nothing great, but cheap. The rooms at Resorts are fantastic, but more expensive. I haven't played much poker there, but Resorts typically spreads the higher limits of the 2.

[/ QUOTE ] Have you played at TL before? The Saturday noon tourney is about 6 weeks old and it grows every week. $100+15, 4k in chips, 20 minute rounds starting w/25-50. Solid but beatable competition. It has been a fun tourney. More newbies are playing but rarely make it to the final 2 tables, the creme rises in this tourney. If you have played at TL before you already know how great the cash games are, but they've been better lately. Hope see you there. ~Fish |
