Re: ~~~ OFFICIAL YANKEES 2007 WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS OR BUST THREAD ~~
Flaherty is pretty good as an announcer.
Yankees being shut out by McGowan through 6.2, who is 0-7 with a 9+ ERA in 11 starts. |

[ QUOTE ] I've seen no evidence that this team can compete with the better teams in the league. And no reason to expect that they will. [/ QUOTE ] This is just dumb. [/ QUOTE ] do i have esp, or were these very two statements made like 2 weeks ago by the same two people? |

Re: Let\'s Face the Facts, Yankee Fans
And what has the last two weeks shown us? The lineup is loaded with thirty-somethings who aren't hitting. The bullpen comes in early and often and is mostly ineffective. Five save opportunities in 49 games. It wasn't two weeks ago I said the team was in trouble. It was on opening day when they started Carl Pavano.
This team is obviously worse than Pythagoras measures it. A-Rod was responsible for a large proportion of their run creation when he was on fire. Now he's cooled off and the sub-par performance of so many of the other starters is showing. |

[/ QUOTE ] andy, i think that the point has been made in this thread that it is incredibly unlikely that abreu, giambi, damon, and cano continue to hit as they are. just about everyone who's not a-rod, posada, and jeter are not only having down years, they're having the worst years of their career and it's not even close. this team may be putting itself in too big a hole to come back for the wild card - but a long winning streak should be expected. |

[/ QUOTE ] A long winning streak shouldn't be expected. That's not the way it works. Just because they've gotten unlucky to this point doesn't mean they are 'due' to get lucky...just like in poker, craps, or anything else. If anything, the awful play of certain aging players means they are less likely to go on a long winning streak, not moreso. They obviously aren't as bad as their record would have us believe, but let's not pencil them in for 'long winning streaks' using such logic. |

Re: Let\'s Face the Facts, Yankee Fans
Precisely. If they had a solid rotation, perhaps a streak could be reasonably hoped for. One can expect Cano to step it up, but Abreu and Giambi and Damon and Rivera? Who knows. It's more reasonable to assume they're not the players they were than that they'll suddenly catch fire. And that Jeter and Posada will cool off, perhaps negating the benefits of a couple of players improving.
