Re: WSOP E Real Bracelet or Not?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] No WSOP bracelet is a real bracelet if it is played outside of the USA in the same way that no Olympic gold medal is real if held outside of Greece? I don't get the concern. [/ QUOTE ] worst. analogy. evar. [/ QUOTE ] [censored] me. Irony, irony... They are just marketing tools. |

Re: WSOP E Real Bracelet or Not?
BJ, your examples aren't really relevant as it's obvious there are already lots of types of bracelets, some of which are more prestigious than others.
If someone won a main event bracelet and a 50k horse, they would be hyped separately, just like your examples. The bottom line is the bracelets and the money won will count towards WSOP winnings in every single measurement. They will not be a separate category like circuit events. |

Re: WSOP E Real Bracelet or Not?
[ QUOTE ]
lol at most of you even discussing this when 75% of you won't even play in a WSOP event let alone WSOPE [/ QUOTE ] Excellent, with my 1 WSOP cash I have an expert opinion on the matter. Of course they should count. It is good for growing poker, and the WSOP bracelet is the most known of any poker accomplishment. To me the real question is how many WSOP bracelets per year is too many. I think the answer is between 200-250 to get the right balance of accessibility and scarcity, but I would have to think about it further to really figure it out. In the most popular US sport leagues, between 3-4% of the players win a championship any given year. Even in individual sports like golf or tennis you have 4 majors a year for about 200 players, which with a conservative estimate of 10k unique players at the WSOP would translate to 200 bracelets. But it really isn't feasible to have that many events due to logistical issues, but when you have the chance to run events in a different part of the world and include a whole new audience, I don't understand why people wouldn't want to leap at the opportunity to add more bracelets into circulation. As far as I see it the only people who could possibly be against this are the already established poker players, whose best interests are to keep other players from reaching similar levels of success. As somebody previously had pointed out, if you are counting bracelets from 20 years ago, then if the WSOP brand decides to expand in a logical way I just don't see how anybody could argue against it without some vested personal interest. |

Re: WSOP E Real Bracelet or Not?
Excellent post, BJ! Now we need a definition of what a "Major" really is. How about a format like the PGA or the ATP where there are 4 MAJORS and everything else is just a main event.
WSOP Main Event, WPT Championship, EPT Championship, Aussie Millions. People love fokking stats, I love fokking stats...Why? Fokk if I know... but I think it would add an extra level of excitement to Poker which can't be a bad thing. I think the WSOPE has to prove it will stick around, before it can be a major. It's a marketing experiment for now. If it draws less players than the WPT main event, which is more expensive, it's pretty much a dud. How many majors has Ivey won? lol |

Re: WSOP E Real Bracelet or Not?
Al, your list is way off.
The 4 most prestigious events of the year, in order are: WSOP ME, 50k Horse, 25k Bellagio WPT Champ, and IMO WSOPE London ME is now #4 on the list (20k buyin main event that gives out bracelet). |

Re: WSOP E Real Bracelet or Not?
If I had a prop bet about someone not cashing in the WSOP this year, I'd be pretty pissed off if they whiffed in the WSOP, cashed in the WSOPE instead, and didn't pay up.

Re: WSOP E Real Bracelet or Not?

Don't see them moving it away from Las Vegas, don't think any other casino in the world has the capabilities to run the series. London has it stretched over 3 casino which each hold only 100 players each. Unless they can get a bill through parliament that allows the UK to build a super casino of similar size to those in vegas it is never going to happen. Not sure if there is a casino in Europe (Monte Carlo maybe?) that is big enough to host the event. [/ QUOTE ] The first "super casino" will be built in Manchester. The bill has already been passed through and I expect to see at least 1 of these "super casino's" built in all of the major cities in England. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I know, based on the buy ins and the fields. But if you wanted to establish a BRAND for majors, it would have to be international. What was tougher, EPT finals or WSOPE? Aussie would have to stay. |
