Re: Being Told \"you have a problem\"
[ QUOTE ]
I've talked about this with my classmates and they seem to have an idea on why I win and why I won't go broke. I explain how I win more than I lose by playing well, which amounts to +EV spots. Then I outline why a bankroll prevents me from going bust. They all seem to have to various grasps of this. Oh yeah, they're all stats majors. As an aside though, I must not get out enough. Of the people I talk to (not just classmates), I can't recall the last time I talked to someone about poker and they walked away thinking poker was pure luck. Must be something I'm doing wrong, or right. I use a handful of analogies to common games to define a +EV edge and extend it to poker. [/ QUOTE ] How about not trying to impress people that really don't care about you or your "gambling problem?" You're just tapping the glass, after all.... |

Re: Being Told \"you have a problem\"
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] when u never see the sun you have somewhat of a problem, also dont talk to numbers to ppl oustide poker. They just dont get it. [/ QUOTE ] Amen! Big-time. You can't explain it to a non-gambler. If you tell them you won, they say you were just lucky this time. If you tell them you lost, they think you are a constant sucker. When asked, I give a brief answer, "I hold my own." Same with the stock market. I have never owned a bond or a CD or savings much. It is all in two mutual funds and I am up 21%, at least, this year. Folks who have to work warn me year after year than I am going broke. Could happen. Not. Don't tell them. [/ QUOTE ] Which funds? |

[ QUOTE ]
My brother an I were having an argument about me not having a real job. I told him that we could compare bank statements. He then responded with "you only have money because you have a gambling problem" I loled. [/ QUOTE ] I love the irony in your brother's quote. |

Re: Being Told \"you have a problem\"
unless you are prepared to spend a great deal of time explaining, specifics are always best left unsaid outside the realm of this forum...at least in the world i live in. Even those non 2p2ers that specifically take an interest to poker don't get it....theyre just not the ones telling you you have a problem.
also, maybe you werent clear? you play too much but you work 4 hours a day "full time"? someone should explain that "Full time" for a poker player means full time pay, not full time work. |
