I find it odd that people advocate raising specifically to an amount that will commit you to call a push. There is no logical reason for this. [/ QUOTE ] At least for me, that was just a clear short way to describe the amount that I would raise to. Not the reason for raising to that amount. |

I am pretty sure I have seen people using it the way I was suggesting though. |

Re: The New York Back Raise...25/50 Live

[ QUOTE ] Because of the sizing of your raise, do you think that the villain likely reads more strength or weakness from it? Based on your description and a slightly oversized reraise, doesn't that open his range up even further? [/ QUOTE ] All that he can interpret from my raise size, I think (although he can probably chime in here), is that I am, because of the price I laid myself, committed to calling a shove. Therefore, if he shoves, he knows he will be called, tightening, not loosening his range, IMO. [/ QUOTE ] why would you want to play QQ in a way that tightened his pushing range if you were planning to call? |

Re: The New York Back Raise...25/50 Live
For the record it's called 2nd hand Low.
I don't think you New Yorkers should be trying to take credit for a move you most certainly did not invent. |

Re: The New York Back Raise...25/50 Live
Reminds me a hand I recently played in a 20/40 NL live game. I limped AA UTG, MP (LAG) raises to 120, 2 LP callers, BB calls with QQ (I later found out), and I reraise to 440. MP raiser is confused and pushes (he covers my 3.5k). Everyone folds, including the BB with QQ and I make a no-brainer call. He flips KK and doubles me up nicely.
The last 3 times I've picked up AA in EP, I've done that and have won 3 decent sized to large sized pots. |
