[ QUOTE ]
These cops are heroes and true defenders of our nation. - 72% of problem gamblers reported an episode of depression. - 52% report alcohol abuse. - 50% of problem gamblers abuse their children. - In areas that allow casino gambling judges are reporting that 1/3 of the divorce cases they see involve gambling as a reason the marriage is dissolving. In these same areas spousal abuse has risen over 300%. - After Mississippi legalized casino gambling pawn shops became the fastest growing business in the state. People are pawning their possessions in order to gamble. - Problem gamblers are 150 times more likely to attempt suicide. - Secular treatment of problem gamblers has only an 8% success rate. This is one of the lowest rates of any addiction. The reason the success rate for treating a gambling problem is so difficult is because it is not a disease - it is a moral choice Consider these facts: 1. Each day, 88 million dollars are spent on lotteries alone, more money than is spent on food. 2. Ten million Americans have a gambling addiction. 3. When legalized gambling enters a new area, there is a 100%-500% rise of compulsive gamblers. At least 2/3 of compulsive gamblers turn to crime to finance their addiction. 4. Gambling causes a wide range of social problems such as increases in divorces, child protection cases, crime rates, domestic violence and child abuse. For every $1.00 the state receives from gambling revenue, it costs that state at least $3.00 in increased services such as criminal-justice, and welfare. [/ QUOTE ] err sobering facts but what does gambling have to do with poker? |

[/ QUOTE ] First, sounds like you don't think for yourself, but don't bother responding to that, because if you do, we don't want to know. Second, what part of what these [censored] did was heroic? You draw no connections between these stats you pulled out of your ass (oh you didn't? Then link to some references.) and the action that was taken against these people. I have a good idea why that is: BECAUSE THERE ARE NONE. Shutting down a game has no effect on the rate of gambling or the "effects" of gambling, esp when THERE IS STATE SANCTIONED GAMBLING. So, go find somewhere else to spout meaningless factoids that don't pertain to the discussion at hand. We are too smart for you here. |

[ QUOTE ]
It is one of the most ignorant posts I have ever read on 2+2 and I feel dumber having read it. [/ QUOTE ] I am the ignorant one? I am the only one who has cited FACTS and you are ignoring said FACTS. ig·no·rance (ig-nhor-anse) n. The condition of being uneducated, unaware, or uninformed. I am AWARE of the FACTS. I am INFORMED about the FACTS. I am EDUCATED about the FACTS. Despite my best efforts, you are still not, sir. Here are some more facts: # An estimated 100 million Americans wager over 600 billion dollars annually. # Americans gamble more money than they spend on groceries. # Lotteries are the most-played form of legalized gambling in the U.S. In fiscal year 1997, Americans wagered 5.8 billion on lotteries — about $135 for every man, woman, and child in the nation. Lotteries are the only form of gambling in the U.S. that has a virtual government monopoly. # 34 years ago, only one state, New Hampshire permitted a lottery. As recently as 1963 lotteries were banned in every state in America. Today, 37 states and D.C. have legalized state-run lotteries. # Gambling produces no wealth and entices people into compulsive behavior. # The money comes from the pockets of those who have lost it. # Economists consider the lottery a redistribution of wealth and a tax on the poor. Sounds like you, as well as many others are in denial. As for its relation to poker, I think it is clear to many scientists and mathematicians that poker is just a glorified lottery, much like black jack or craps. |

As for its relation to poker, I think it is clear to many scientists and mathematicians that poker is just a glorified lottery, much like black jack or craps. [/ QUOTE ] Then why in the hell are you posting this here? And one more question. Lets say I am a professional rodeo star and I ride bulls. I pay $1000 to enter a big event and, if the animals cooperate and I am on my game I can make a good payday. Is this gambling? I enter a poker tourney and pay a $1000 buy in and, with a little luck and the skill I have learned over the years playing I earn a good payday. Is this any more gambling than the first example? You are an idiot who obviousely lost at poker so since you suck you feel like it is all luck, yet thousands of people earn a living playing the game you obviously do not understand. And yes the same people win year after year because the luck factor only goes so far, and you sir obviousely quit when the luck ran out and your true skill was realized. So now you troll the website you probably ignored the advice on when you were playing enciting people with ridiculous statements like you made that mathemeticians and scientists agree that poker=blackjack=roulette=lottery. mOst of the pros earning a living are mathematical thinkers and realize a poker tournament is one long math problem. They did not teach that in remedial math your third freshman year in high school. How did it feel to be the only eighth grader old enough to drive to school? Over hundreds of thousands of hands the luck factor all but disappears and all that is left is skill. You should not have quit before you learned the game. You come off kind of like my mother in law. Dumb as hell. |
