when looking at the inital question that was posted i think you may have misrepresented what your gf was trying to say.
Because for example... if someone was given the choice of reading a book that just by reading it you had a 30 percent chance of becoming gay... the fear of not wanting to read that book could be considered similar to a fear of airplanes. If you ended up reading that book than you would end up your true self, no matter if you stayed straight or turned gay. That is an irrational fear, the fear of being your true self, which may be even more of an irrational fear than airplanes, because the fear of airplanes isnt an irrational one, its bascially the same as fear of death, which is not very irration, whereas being yourself is not something to be scared of, therefore it would be more irrational to be scared of turning gay as your true self than it would be irrational to be scared of getting on an airplane. |

Your girlfriend sounds awesome.
Both are irrational or non-rational whatever you called it - doesn't matter. Both "fears" come from emotions - emotions don't come about from reasoning. Emotions come from your genes and environmental conditioning. |

She made the comparison of "being disguisted / very turned off" by homosexual acts, and the prospect of participating in such acts, with being afraid to fly on airplanes. [/ QUOTE ] That's the stupidest thing I have ever heard. |
