Re: I am no longer tipping the dealers at CAZ until.......(long)
[ QUOTE ]
It seems odd to me, that he doesn't have any regular players that he would be comfortable asking about a tipping situation. [/ QUOTE ] It's just plain against the rules in most casinos for the staff to bring up such a topic. So basically Howard is going to have to wait for a dealer to get confused enough or upset enough to break the rules to ask him why. And then Howard is gonna tell him it's because the dealers let the players break the rules. He's most likely to come out as the anti-DaleCarnegie here, losing friends and having no influence at all on people. |

Re: I am no longer tipping the dealers at CAZ until.......(long)
[ QUOTE ]
I won't start the poll but I would be interested in how many 2+2r's that are regulars, in a specific B&M cardroom, did something for the dealers at Christmas. I think that could make an interesting thread. [/ QUOTE ] I think it might degenerate into a troll-fest like a lot (not all) tipping threads do. since your interested personally I don't do a thing during the holidays for the dealers since I tip them year round. I do go out of my way to give a small token to each floor person that I interact with regularly since they get tips infrequently as a token of my appreciation. |

Re: I am no longer tipping the dealers at CAZ until.......(long)
I was a dealer in a small cardroom that had one regular who only tipped for good service. I always enjoyed receiving his tip because of the added pride of having provided good service. I was the only dealer who he tipped on a regular basis, some never received a tip from him. I also had another player that stopped tipping me because I enforced a rule after he violated it after being warned. It never bothered me that he didnt tip, and eventually he started again.
My recommendation is to reward the dealers that are trying to do their job well, and stiff the ones that dont care. I often will tip an excellent dealer when he/she leaves even if I didnt win a hand during their down because their service was excellent. |

Re: I am no longer tipping the dealers at CAZ until.......(long)
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I don't like doing it AT ALL and am hoping that I get asked why as soon as possible so my many friends will know that it's nothing personal. [/ QUOTE ] Personally I would never aska player why he wasn't tipping me. And I would be offended by a dealer asking this. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know where you are a dealer. It's probably a lot different than at CAZ. Things are pretty sociable here, many of the dealers that I'm not tipping I consider (if not actual friends) at least close acquaintances and they also play in the games. They will know that something must be *wrong* if I'm suddenly not tipping them, some of them are bound to ask, and I'll be glad when they do. |

[/ QUOTE ] Howard - i think this is something you are trying to convince yourself rather than an actual fact. There is already evidence that suggests otherwise. Your reasons to stop topping are very good, your method of communication is the problem. Its incredibly passive aggressive, and will not help you to sway anyone's opinions or actions in your favor - which should be your ultimate goal. |

[/ QUOTE ] That is why I won't start it. I think about the risk/reward before starting a poll or a thread. I don't care how many Trolls attack if I learn something important or get a question answered, it is worth it. This is just mild curiousity and isn't worth the hassle of dealing with a flame war over tipping/Christmas presents. I sent them a full sheet cake decorated like a Christmas card. All the dealers seemed really suprised to get a cake and they seemed to appreciate it. |

OTOH, maybe I'm deluding myself. I'll know in short order and if it doesn't *work* then I'll try adding a layer as somebody above mentioned and see what happens then. Re: Steam & TT's Christmas poll: I spread ~$400 or so around CAZ at Christmas. Various floor people (the ones I like the most) get pre-paid gas cards because those are considered gifts and they don't have to put them into the community toke box. Many dealers get $25 @ over a couple of days so that I make sure they all get them. Just to illustrate how it is for me at CAZ I'll mention that the last dealer couple to get married got a Le Creuset frying pan. I'm not cheap and I've tipped plenty but now they are all on suspension. It's not the money, it's the principle (he said on the way to the gallows ). |
