Re: Pickup basketball incident....
sevenhigh,
you can always switch up the teams to make them more even so your sucky friends can guard each other. what you did was not unreasonable to the least. |

Re: Pickup basketball incident....
Yes, 3 on 3, half is ideal but 4 on 4 is great too. At our gym there are a 6 hoops but only the 2 from the long sided court are decent. The older guys, 8-12 of us, get 1 of the good nets and pretty much play amongst ourselves. Once out of every 3 times, these 2 twins show up. They're both 6-4, 250, bigger than any of my friends or me. They are decent players but are slow, lumbering, black holes. Occasionaly we tell them they can't play for a couple of games then they eventually start playing on our court.
Also, the idea of a 1on1 for the court is a good proposition. For OP, standard, the kid overreacted especially considering that some of your friends were crap. |

In my experience, pick-up games these days always end up ugly.

Re: Pickup basketball incident....
I really enjoy 4v4 half court over 3v3, but this definitely needs to be 3 other guys you regularly ball with cause you get the right combination of team ball with a bit of individual flair and more space.

Re: Pickup basketball incident....
yeah - you did nothing wrong. i am quite familiar with this situation.
i have shown up at the park before looking to play, and have encountered groups like yours. a bunch of guys who came together and prefer to play among themselves. they are usually kind of dorky and not very good and it's really not even worth approaching them. the other kid was clearly in the wrong. if he was an experienced street baller i'm surprised he even approached you at all. and for all of the clowns talking about how 3 on 3 half court is standard or 4 on 4 full court (wtf), i'm just going to assume that you guys are dorky and not very good as well, because anyone who plays seriously plays 5 on 5 full. half court is only used when you are waiting for more people to show up - if this is not your standard then you are playing at the wrong courts. |

Re: Pickup basketball incident....
Team of 5 challenged my group of friends during a 3 on 3 game. We accept and figure we would just sub someone in.
Is this ok? Guy on the other team flipped out telling us someone had to sit. |
