Re: Firepay/Neteller/Stars Decision Impact
As someone else said, check your email. Here is what the text of mine says:
SUBJECT: New FirePay policy for US account holders On September 30, 2006, the United States Congress passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. Once President Bush approves the Act. FirePay (www.firepay.com) will no longer allow US consumer payments for online gambling merchants. * Beginning the day President Bush signs the Act, FirePay will decline any purchase transactions from US FirePay account holders at any gambling merchant site. * Ten days after President Bush signs the Act, FirePay will decline any transfer attempt made by any online gambling merchant to a US FirePay account. All US FirePay accounts holders will continue to be able to make purchases and receive payments from non-gambling, online merchants, as well as “Deposit From” and “Withdraw To” their US bank account. Click here for the latest news and opportunities for FirePay account holders. ** Please note: 1. This new policy will not affect FirePay account holders from outside of the United States 2. For any questions regarding these deadlines or policy, please email info@firepay.com Sincerely, FirePay info@firepay.com |

am i missing something.. i dont see anywhere in ZB's OP about pokerstars [/ QUOTE ] The PokerStars part is inferred, since I have been updating the forum periodically about PokerStars. With the announcement from Firepay today, a lot of people have said that it spelled "doomsday" for Neteller, and as such with PokerStars. I was simply stating that this is not the case. |

Although, I could be totally wrong, but I believe the law in Maryland specifically makes online poker illegal for the player. [/ QUOTE ] I've certainly never heard of such a law before. AFAIK Maryland is accepted by every online poker room that accepts any U.S. residents at all. For example, Dream Poker (Prima) recently announced it is closing accounts in seven states but Maryland is not on the list. The Neteller-Maryland thing is an anomaly. I've searched for an explanation but never found anything. |

Re: Firepay/Neteller/Stars Decision Impact
I believe it's because MD banking laws require an in-state representative to do business with state residents. Neteller declined and so they don't do biz with MD peeps. I might not have all the details right, but that's the gist.

Re: Firepay/Neteller/Stars Decision Impact
I don't understand the confusion here. Didn't Neteller's original public statement after the bill passed say they weren't dumping U.S. customers, but that the regulations that eventually get implemented might prevent U.S. banks from doing business with them? Other than the Barclay's rumor, has anything at all changed with respect to Neteller since then?
