Re: Raising then folding AJ pre-flop - pathetic or heroic?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Just out of curiosity, how much of an equity boost do you think suitedness gives AJ? [/ QUOTE ] Exactly 6%. That can be pretty huge if it bumps it from say, 30 to 36% in a 3 way, capped pot. Haven't read all the reply's, but it seems that while folding AJo here was correct, folding AJs might not. But I don't know, I'll have to look at all these Poker Stove results. My first intuition is to call if suited, fold if not. The reason is that if you hit a nut flush, you are bound to get tons of action, so great implied odds. AJo does not have that extra benefit. [/ QUOTE ] The suitedness factor is lessened because you only have 2 opponents. Your implied odds really aren't as good as you think. Especially when you're putting in 4 bets preflop. b |

[/ QUOTE ] I think maybe you misunderstood me, and I probably phrased it badly. I don't mean to say that you're suddenly getting super implied odds that make this a standard call. It was more speculation about the fact that, with two raisers PF, a flush would pay off well. Obviously implied odds are low, but suitedness does add some. But getting 6.5:1 to call 2 more, the 11% chance of flopping a nut flush draw and 6% equity by the river just might add enough value. I agree, it is a small ammount of value added, but this seems like a marginal decision, so small ammounts make a difference. |

Re: Raising then folding AJ pre-flop - pathetic or heroic?
I think AJs is an easy call, mainly because it will be so easy to play preflop, IE flop nut flush draw etc AJo is a a standard fold in this situation as domination is too great,

Exactly 6%. [/ QUOTE ] [nit]How 'bout 4%, since with AJo you'll make a flush 2% of the time by the river?[/nit] Regardless, this is not enough of a difference that AJs and AJo are polar opposites on the call-or-fold continuum. That was my only point. |

BTW, I also fold AJs and sometimes AQo in this spot.

Re: Raising then folding AJ pre-flop - pathetic or heroic?
You weren't the only one in this thread championing the 'implied odds' line.
[ QUOTE ] It was more speculation about the fact that, with two raisers PF, a flush would pay off well. [/ QUOTE ] It might not. These aren't 2 lagtards. They're described as solid and conventional. You may put in alot to get there, and then not get paid off much when you hit at all. If at all. You may also only have 1 caller by the time you make your hand. So you have to think how much, 'effectively', you're going to put in here against how much you will make. It's really not likely going to be that much. AJs is closer to a call, but I can still see a fold here. b |

Re: Raising then folding AJ pre-flop - pathetic or heroic?
I rarely get these tables, as I mostly play $5/10 at WPEX and Pokerroom. The games are way too aggressive to even consider open-limping.
If I still played $2/4 at Party, I'm sure I'd feel differently about never open-limping. |
