clearly you have something to prove and need to keep pumping yourself up. performity comes in and says that silva is good ont he ground and suddenly you are backpedaling and talking about "i was talking in comparison to nate blah blah". no you werent you were saying his ground game is bad, reread your post if you doubt it. also i never said that long legs were not a disadvantage when it comes to giving up submissions. they can however be used to advantage when it comes to protecting yourself from taking abuse on the bottom the way silva uses the body triangle. i wasnt saying it was better to have long legs i was jsut pointing something out. clearly you have something to prove. otherwise you wouldnt keep pointing out how knowledgeable you are and how little others know. im not a serious mma person or anything i jsut like to watch the fights so relax. [/ QUOTE ] I actaully feel that Silva's BJJ is pretty good..his wrestling and grappling skills are horrendous IMO though. And truth be told, his BJJ is suspect as well because many feel it is not a true Black belt, instead it was more of a friendly gift to Nog. To clarify, my take is still that Silva has a ton of technical knowledge in BJJ...but I think of him as similar to royce gracie...I dont' think much of his overall ground game. Marquardt will be looking to power through him and control him on the ground. Another misconception is hte amount of power Silva holds in his hands. IMO his punches are actually on the weaker side...he KOs people because of his insanely accurate strikes and his clean knees...he doesn't have KO power in his fists again, all IMO. Nate +185 was freaking gold. But I still donno who's gonna win this fight. |

Re: ufc 72 + 73 on bodog
Lines are moving:
How do you guys feel about BJ Penn at -330 now? Nate Marq is at +145, im guessing no more value there? I completely agree that silva doesnt have the same power in his fist that chuck or rich has. How does this all come into play though? Hes more accurate, does that make getting in harder or easier (for the take down). I would think itd be easier as long as their TRYING for the take down, not being stupid and standing out like chris leben. +185 sounds great, im waaaay too late now though, nice pick guys/gl. Kimbo Slice (-210) vs Ray Mercer (+175) Ive seen Kimbo slice fight on internet videos. From what I've seen his striking doesnt look great because hes fighting random people. His cardio gave out in another fight I saw. I dont know who ray mercer is, thoughts? |

Re: ufc 72 + 73 on bodog
Ray Mercer is a big name in boxing. Merciless Ray Mercer. He's an old guy, prime was 20 years ago. I saw him lose to Klitchko, Vlademir I think, a few years ago on HBO. He is done as a boxer, fat, slow, but probably can hit harder than almost any MMA dude.

[/ QUOTE ] This fight is so hard to accurately handicap because we've never seen either of these guys in a real MMA fight. I think its safe to say that Ray Mercer can outbox Kimbo, but who knows how seriously he has taken this fight. His K1 fight against Remy Bonjasky was uninspired to say the least. And god knows what kind of ground training either of these guys have, or if either of them will try to take it there. Also, I think there is a non-negligible probability that Mercer takes a dive. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I'm curious to see how this fight goes down. With Pride gone, its gonna be harder and harder to find a good old fashioned freak show fight. |

Re: ufc 72 + 73 on bodog
I have been staring at that kimbo line as well, trying to understand it. Given, they don't even have MMA experience, but Mercer has top-level boxing experience, including holding a heavyweight belt. How in the hell can Kimbo be a 2:1 favorite when both of their games are 1-D boxing? I saw some random video on youtube of Kimbo training BJJ, but I really can't imagine him taking it to the ground.
I am also intrigued to see this freakshow. I may even bet at those odds. |

You decide whether those two factors mean Kimbo is that much more likely to win the fight. |

Re: ufc 72 + 73 on bodog
Ive decided after watching Mercer's K-1 fights that theres a good chance he will not show up ready to fight. Doesn't mean he won't KO Kimbo in 15 seconds, but I don't think Im gonna bet on it.

I don't think mercer will be able to reverse, submit, or stand it back up if kimbo takes him down to a basic guard position. On the other hand, if kimbo is a moron and tries to throw with him... but i can't believe kimbo's handlers would be dumb enough to tell him to stand up. You just don't stand with a boxing world champion, even 20 years later. you just don't. Looking at it this way, i think kimbo will be the favorite, bc the age, weight, and athleticism all point to kimbo being the superior wrestler. if he can get him to the ground, lay and pray, it's kimbo's fight to lose. judging a line on this is hard because of the lack of real info. I wouldn't bet on this, but at 50/50 odds i'd take kimbo all day. |

Re: ufc 72 + 73 on bodog
Ehh, you guys watch this youtube of kimbo training at Bas's gym?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_KIHxcfQnwI His wrestling looked pretty awful and he was apologizing and whatnot to his training partner for his mistakes. He looked very uncomfortable on the mat to me, whereas he is obviously very comfortable throwing hands. I see his coachs telling him to take it down, I just think once a fight starts his little amount of learned technique will be out the window and he will go back to what he knows best. Im not putting my money where my mouth is though. |
