David Ortiz
December 16, 2002: Released by the Minnesota Twins. At least some of these other teams were smart enough to trade the players and get some value. |

As a mets fan:
kazmir for zambrano was god awful -- but im finally over it and wish kazmir success The mets trade Melvin mora for 1 month of Mike Bordick seemed okay at the time but in retrospect was god awful as well The mets trade Jeff Kent and Jose Viscaino for Carlos Baega and Alvaro Espinoza === what a bust Ryan for Fregosi is still the worst of all time |

Rafael Soriano for Horacio Ramirez. [/ QUOTE ] this deal won't cost the mariners much in terms of wins, but it has to rank fairly high on the "WTF were they thinking" list. how could this possibly work out well for them? i hate to say it, but the beckett deal might be the most costly since the AJ Perienxdsfjklski deal |

[ QUOTE ] Scott Kazmir for Victor Zambrano [/ QUOTE ] [censored] I forgot about this... thinking about this deal literally makes me sick to my stomach. [/ QUOTE ] This was the rare trade that made everyone's jaws drop the instant it was made. No one that had a job outside of the Mets' front office liked this. The Varitek/Lowe, Bagwell, Mulder deals were all bad, but for my money the Kazmir deal was the worst. Kazmir had tons of buzz as a future ace that would already be in the bigs except that the Mets were being careful with him, and Victor Zambrano was widely regarded as a 4th-5th starter with no control. When the trade went down, I figured that in a few weeks I'd hear that Kazmir would need Tommy John surgery. Guess not. |

even if kazmir never pans out to be a great pitcher that trade was awful because of what they could have traded him for at the time instead of zambrano

Pretty much any deal done by the Mariners in the past 5 years has been grossly lopsided in favor of the other team. Their front office has their heads so far up their asses it even funny. The trade for Jose Vidro this past offseason was [censored] pathetic.

John Smoltz for Doyle Alexander [/ QUOTE ] I think you know neither the definition of "recent" nor "lopsided." Doyle Alexander was 9-0 with a 1.53 ERA down the stretch. |

I think it's silly to call trades that involve veterans for minor leaguers who happen to shock everyone and turn out to be awesome as "most lopsided". The Kazmir trade is different as everyone at the time were even thinking "WTF?!?".
