I like them both, though I don't like "comparing" them, as they both are very different in terms of rolls and presence.
Al Pacino plays very extroverted characters, and DeNiro plays more introverted or internalized characters. If playing NL poker, you might compare Al Pacino to a LAG and DeNiro to a TAG. AB |

Meh, I think they're both super over-rated. Sure they're sort of funny Italian stereotypes, but going "lil bit" or "hoo ah" isn't acting. OTOH Scorcese is a freaking genius and DeNiro's been lucky enough to star in a lot of great great Scorcese movies. [/ QUOTE ] deniro didn't get "lucky" to start in so many scorsese movies, probably just lucky to get in the first. The rest of them he got because scorsese likes him so much and realizes his amazing acting ability |

Yeah, I think for most of their careers people thought Scorcese was the lucky one, to get DeNiro.

DeNiro sweeps.
Though if you added a "Who has made fewer bad movies" Pacino would pick that up IMO. I'm of the opinion that DeNiro essentially retired years ago, he no longer has it in him to do the movies that require he becomes a character in a way that took years of prep, he just does the movies where he can read the script the day of shooting and play a caricature of himself. Though 'the good shepherd' seems like an attempt to return to serious film making. |
