Re: Whatever happened to fast rap?
Tonedeff does some pretty fast raps, check out his cd Archetype. Also check out the Extended F@mm cd "Happy [censored] You Songs", which has some fast rapping on it, particullary "velocity", "line drop" being another pretty good song from the cd.
Besides that I can't think of any body who has released any cds recently who is doing anything fast. |

Any of you guys know of Jurrasic 5? They're not particularly fast, but most songs are a bit faster than mainstream stuff. They've got the best beats too IMO. I'd recommend downloading a few songs, they're very different from most other rap. Each CD sounds pretty unique as well. [/ QUOTE ] Nah, I've never heard of them |

Have you been sitting here waiting for another rap thread to interject this? You maybe could have sounded not like a dbag by relating Aesop Rock to the ongoing discussion and mentioning he was your cousin. [/ QUOTE ] O Rly? lighten up man. |

Kicker, Do you know Blockhead too? I used to e-know him through old hip-hop usenet. [/ QUOTE ] Nah, never met Blockhead, but I met a good chunk of people from Def Jux. Basically, if Ian (AR) was on tour and had a show in Philly, I went backstage and met whoever he was on tour with. Everyone I met was super chill and super friendly and oddly enough, there was very little partying / drug use going on. I guess all that happens after the show, but a blunt or two wouldn't hurt anyone. Sample size : 4 shows in the last 4-5 years. |

But if you are getting an album, I personally dig Bazooka Tooth. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Busta is pretty fast... Too bad his CD has been on the verge of being released for the past 2 years. [/ QUOTE ] It actually just leaked yesterday. [/ QUOTE ] Yaaay... Now when's Detox dropping? [/ QUOTE ] My best guess...sometime this decade. [ QUOTE ] Eminen spits some ridiculously fast [censored], atleast in his prime he did. [/ QUOTE ] Eminem rapped fast when he thought that rapping fast was required to be a good rapper. A lot of his older material is fast, but I wouldn't say any of these songs came from his prime. He pretty much abandoned this style before SSLP dropped. |

[/ QUOTE ] This is true, I have yet to find anyone who dislikes the song Daylight. This is more due to Blockhead (producer), but holds true non the less. Also check out Nightlight, where Aesop inverts much of Daylight. Only Aesop could do something like this because Daylight makes no sense to begin with, but pretty cool regardless. |
