Re: Tipping confusion
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] why do we tip a gas attendant who pumps your gas, but not a supermarket cashier who bags your groceries, for ex.? [/ QUOTE ] You americans needs to learn how to do things yourselves. [/ QUOTE ] people only pump your gas in new jersey and oregon afaik. i have never had anyone pump my gas, and i know that the reason oregon has pumping is because it is mandated by a backwards-as-[censored]-law, which is the explanation for most of the reasons why oregon is so weird. [/ QUOTE ] we have gas stations here appearently in teh lou that are full service pumps, I accidentally pulled up, got out, started pumping my gas, realized that there was nowhere to pay at the pump etc, and a gas attendant just standing there staring at me...I was like wtf is going on? it was lame and I felt like an idiot getting back in my car and pulling aroudn to the other side of the station with normal pumps. |

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Guys who deliver a TV I ordered online? Y not close Landscaper? N 1-800-Mattress delivery guys? Y and offer drink. not close Plumber who replaces a leaky pipe? N but Y if its an emergency call Electrician who installs a ceiling fan? N Guy who installs DirecTV dish? Y Contractor who re-paves driveway? N. not close Furniture delivery guys? Y and offer drink. not close Trash pickup guys (public works, not private) Xmass Bonus [/ QUOTE ] I agree with all except for the satellite dish install. [/ QUOTE ] *ahem* it's not a standard tip [/ QUOTE ] Why would you tip the satellite guy and not the plumber. I don't tip for installations/repairs. I'm already paying out my ass for the service. [/ QUOTE ] I tipped my DTV guy because: 1) Installation was free with purchase 2) They had to climb onto the roof of a 3 story house 3) There were problems with getting it to work so it took a while 4) They were generally nice guys. I also might have tipped because I was happy to be getting my sunday ticket. |

I want to know why if those other guys are getting tipped the paver and the landscaper are getting screwed. |
