Uncomfortable carrying large sums of money...please help

Actually, in the US, private currency is legal as long as the currency providers (casinos) provide for the tracking and taxation of all transactions that happen with this private currency. I'm betting you never heard of Ithaca Hours?

Of course it is a legitimate concern. The kid is not yet used to carrying around what to him is a large sum of money. (What the low lives who hang around the casinos aren’t interested in “only” 2k?)

Chillrob, like others have said just don’t flash the cash and be nonchalantly aware of your surroundings. If you ever feel uncomfortable leaving the poker room just ask a security guard to walk you to your car. (Don’t tell him how much money you have on you – it isn’t a whole lot relative to some folk.) Just say I have some cash on me and would like an escort to my car.

Hopefully, you will build your roll to the point when 2k isn’t a lot of cash. Eventually, you will get used to dealing with whatever cash you have. Good luck.

I guess it's all relative (I play much larger limits), but my threshold is anything over 30k. More than that, I too start to feel uncomfortable and that I have too much money on me.

I'll usually wire funds to the casino where I'll be playing before I leave for the airport. If it's a cardroom I travel to regularily, I'll just take 5k chips with me back and forth on the plane (chips won't cause you any problems with airport security and they are less bulky and easir to carry).

When returning home, I just have the casino issue me a check. Yeah, that means I gotta run it through my bank, but I'm an honest guy when it comes to taxes.. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I don't know where you live or how you like to dress but I would suggest cargo shorts or pants.

Right before I moved to Las Vegas I bought my first pair of tan cargo shorts (because that is what the store had in shorts). They turned ut to be a Godsend. 4 pairs of pockets in the front(better to avoid pick pockets) and two of those are zippered. Put your wad in one of the zippered pockets and you don't have to worry about it falling out.

There is also no shame in counting or gathering your winnings in a bathroom stall or the payphone area (nice one at the Wynn).

First of all - if you are not comfortable carrying 2k around for fear you will drop it or be mugged and that it's a very significant amount of money for you, perhaps it's so significant you should not be gambling it. I understand, it's poker, I have an edge, etc., but your post seems to suggest that losing that money (whether in a poker game or via a fluke occurrence) would be very rough for you. If that's the case, move down.

If that's not the case and it really is just that you're not used to the cash, well, there are some things you can do. First, any casino in AC (I think you play there) like the Borgata or Taj allow you to create a players account - you can simply deposit the money and withdraw chips, etc at any time. Some places do have safe deposit boxes, but they can be difficult to get unless you play high limits. Or simply don't worry about it - 2k in hundreds should fit comfortably in any wallet. If you've never been mugged before, the fact that you have 2k on you won't make it any more likely unless u are fanning yourself with Franklins at your local Starbucks. It's just something you get used to - gamblers need to carry cash sometimes, simple as that. If someone at a casino makes you feel uncomfortable, get an escort. Valet parking is another option as well.

Good point Jeff. I remember the first time I lost $1,000 through a stupid mistake 9yes, it has happened more than once), it felt the same as dropping two racks of red - I felt like crap for a few hours, then i got over it. But if I lost that amount and it wasn't easily replaceable I'd feel really sick. Nobody should gamble if they aren't prepared to lose what they came with.

Chill - I am in a similar situation and I did the following to alleviative a little anxiety (not sure if it would actually help in a mugging situation, but it makes me feel better):

- I keep about 1/4 of the cash I take to the casino in a wallet (I recently purchased a chain wallet... harder to lose or misplace)

- Keep the remainder in a money clip or rubber band roll in your front pocket. I feel like if I got mugged they'd get my wallet and I'd be left with the lion's share of my cash.

The one seat was on a heater that was sick. I had the best seat in the house, if I could stay up longer and had the extra dime i would have remained - it was just a matter of time [img]/images/graemlins/frown.gif[/img]
