Re: Money Missing From Poker Accounts
[ QUOTE ]
I have been thinking a lot about this, and one theory I have is that some may have gotten access to passwords at some poker related website through insiders or hacking (i.e. a poker forum, rakebacksite etc. etc.) and have tried the same password on the accounts. I.e. your screenname is common knowledge, Peachy, so be quick to change all passwords and do not use the same password twice. [/ QUOTE ] This is one of the reasons why I like somewhere like Absolute where your login is not related to your actual username. All sites should do the same IMO. |

[ QUOTE ] Wow, this is quite scary. Party needs to do something about playerlogin/tealninja NOW! There have been way to many reports of this guy to not trigger some sort alarm on Party's side. [/ QUOTE ] Its already been investigated... there are numerous threads here on this topic.... there was NO foul play to be found by PP's security team. [/ QUOTE ] That is the problem. Don't you see? |

I'm no database expert but I own a small video-gaming community. My database expert has explained on numerous occassions that forum software and other other registration type stuff is all encrypted. Not even the the guy looking directly at the code can see your password. |

Re: Money Missing From Poker Accounts
I was playing on PartyPoker once and checked my cashier balance. 10 minutes later, BAM, herpes.

[/ QUOTE ] I'm in this boat. I don't think Party can do much unless cheating is blatantly obvious over a course of time. Any smart hacker would make himself look enough like a donk to avoid repurcussions. The threads I read were pretty convincing. Although I did read the response from party, I wish they would provide some logic on how they came to their conclusion. Saying "oh he wasn't cheating" and leaving it at that does not sit well after reading numerous threads by respectable 2p2er's. These threads provided a good base of facts to back up their claims. On top of that the claims were voiced by more then one person. They made a lot more sense then party's response. |

[/ QUOTE ] I have a very hard time believing this.... if it were the case, password theft would be a MUCH more prevelant problem than it is now. Not to mention, the integrity of the site would not only be compromised, but subject to prosectution I'm sure. Could someone set up a website with custom built software that allowed them to retrieve passwords? ... sure. But that doesnt mean that any and all websites have this capability... let alone a website that his hosting products such as HUD, PT, etc, etc. The best defence is to never use the same password all the time... but again, the chances you have registered at an illigitimate site are very small. If they do exist its likely related to pornography or something of that sort. Any and all 'previlant' poker sites are 100% secure I assure you. If your password is stolen, its WAY more likely it was retrieved through a Trojan KeyStroke Logger. ... put the pipe down and step away from the fog. |

Most people use there same name online actual poker sites as they do on internet forums. Most people are incredibly lazy when it comes to passwords etc. It is not inconcevable that someone has the same username and password to party poker as they do www.talkaboutpokerwhileIstealyourmoney.gov Thats my problem - I bet if you tried logging on to Party with every username in your PT database using there username as the password you would get into some accounts. |
