Re: The Poker Mindset
[ QUOTE ]
Feeney proposes that players take on an attitude that emphasizes making good decisions as opposed to being affected by short term fluctuations. GTAOT is the best work on fluctuations ever. [/ QUOTE ] Not good enough, IMO. Poker Mindset goes into a lot more than that. Mindset is a bit dry, but the advice is ultra practical. It will also be intuitive to many players, but it's great for organizing all the non strategy ideas about poker that you must be good at. I suppose if you already know everything you're supposed to do, and you still can't do it, you might need therapy more than this book. But for most people just having it spelled out what you're supposed to do will be enough to get you to do it. |

Re: The Poker Mindset
I just started this book last week and am about half way through.
It really does a good job on expanding on all the mental aspects of the game. I would say that if you really want to go deeper into the psychological factors of the game, it is a great read. However, for me, I am not sure I got anything out of it that wasn't covered in other books. I bought it because I really enjoyed Hilger's first book. |

I've read 30-40% in bits and pieces while freeloading at the book store. Based on this limited view, "The Poker Mindset" is geared more towards a beginning stage player or one who still displays tendencies to treat poker the way tourists treat craps or roulette. Players who already take the game seriously and don't have any significant issue with emotional control may not get a lot of use out of this book. [/ QUOTE ] Completely disregard my comments. I confused this book with the new Schoonmaker book. I've not read any of "The Poker Mindset". |

Re: The Poker Mindset
Great book. Essential reading for anyone starting out to get their head in the right place. Alot of the points in this book are things you learn the hard way over the years. One of the key points for me was to (as an experiment) keep uneven piles of chips to practice making the best decision on every hand. We shouldn't be affected by how much we're up or down in a session. I know I've certainly been guilty of protecting a good session. .Z |
