99 overpair flush draw
BB is a very solid player whom I don't know personally, but from the way he talks, and others talk about him he seems like a very good player. He also bought in for $400 after seeing someone else buy in for $400. He does not know me at all. And the rest of the table he may know and they are all pretty bad to average loose passive players. This is very early.
Live Home Game No-Limit Hold'em, $2.00 BB (9 handed) UTG ($400) UTG+1 ($110) MP1 ($90) Hero ($220) CO ($200) Btn ($300) SB ($400) BB ($65) Preflop: Hero is MP2 with 9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]. Re: 99 overpair flush draw
The stacks are messed up Mike. How much did BB have to start the hand?

Re: 99 overpair flush draw
Any basic advice for someone playing 16 / 27s on Stars and wanting to start cash ? (complete beginner on this)
What limit to begin with ? Does NL10 look good or is it too high / too low ? 6 max or not (probably does not matter) ? Is playing your standard sng TAG style ok to begin with ? (probably all very dumb questions - thanks for your help) |

Playing standard TAG is ok but you'll want to start opening/raising more pots with weaker/drawing hands when you are deep stacked and on the button. If you play like a sng, you wont lose much, but wont win much either. |

Re: 99 overpair flush draw
Rex - where to start depends on your bankroll really. I started at NL10 but that was mostly to get used to 4-tabling 6-max because I'm old and slow.
If you have the bankroll I would recommend starting at NL50 or maybe NL100. The standard bankroll advice is 20 buy-ins but I like to have at least 30. [Edit: I think Cha's advice above about comfort level regarding losing a stack is good. No shame is starting lower and moving up as you feel good about it. I started on Oct. 1st at 10NL, am currently playing 50NL, and will be moving to 100NL in December. I play 100NL during my coached sessions since October and there is not much difference at all on Stars between 50NL and 100NL imo.) I love 6-max: It's an action game and making poker fun for me again. Full ring cash at the low buyins is boring imo so I suggest if you're going to invest the time learning go with 6-max. You are going to have to open your game up quite a bit as compared to SNGs. Even a good tight player at 6-max is much looser preflop than a SNG player. Postflop I play similar except of course no more worries about $EV it's all about cEV. Just remember to aim for big pots with your big hands and small pots with your small hands. One thing that will help you get the hang of it quickly is watching some card runners videos. You should also go to the SSNL forum and read every linked thread in the master sticky. I would recommend reading Chris Fergusons chapter on postflop play in the Full Tilt tournament guide. If you can afford it get a coach. |
