I'm not quite sure if I agree that SOS is that large of a factor with the Pythag though. [/ QUOTE ] Before you pwn me, I stand corrected. I'm still not too familiar with 3rd-order Win% but I did read up on it a couple days ago so I understand where you're going. |

After adjusting for SoS, the Tigers and Indians have a worst third order record than the Blue Jays. I don't think I'll spend many restless nights.

[/ QUOTE ] And then there are the D-Backs, who seem quite content to defy all stats. They have the worst 3rd order record in their division, and yet they're leading it. |

I was just making an observation that was pertinent to the conversation. I know absolutely nothing about Arizona outside of the statistics I just read off of BP saying that they have the worst 3rd order record in the west. |

[/ QUOTE ] can you quickly edumacate me on this. the numbers are from BP. i believe the win pct is 3rd-order, and expected w/l and PS chances are based on pecota. why doesn't this include SoS? shouldn't 3rd-order wins be based on the quality of games played? and shouldn't pecota simulations play over the remaining schedule? |
