Re: I Could Listen to Joe Satriani for Hours
Joe Satriani is awesome. I got drawn into this type of music from my friends, dream theater, liquid tension experiment etc.
Anybody have other recommendations for this type of more instrumental rock music? I'd love to expand my collection. |

Re: I Could Listen to Joe Satriani for Hours
Pretty neat video. I've been a Satriani fan since the 80's when "Not Of This Earth" was released. I keep up with his newer stuff but am partial to a lot of his older music. My favorites from his earlier recordings would be "Always With Me, Always With You" and "Satch Boogie" from Surfing With the Alien, "The Forgotten, Part 2" from Flying in a Blue Dream and of course "Summer Song" from The Extremist.
That video might have been recorded at the G3 concert I went to in the mid 90's at Northrup Auditorium on the University of Minnesota campus. I doubt I'll ever see that much talent on a stage again. It's exactly as I remember it and they did record the concert that night. On another note, the opening performer that night was Adrian Legg, an absolute wizard on the acoustic guitar. A lot of his music is Irish folk type stuff and some of it is pretty mellow. When he gets going though it's just incredible. Hard to believe it's only one guitar when you hear it. If you can find his song "Pass the Valium", check it out. |

Mrs. Utah and I were at the Northrop G3 concert. It was freakin awesome. I didnt know who Adrian Legg was at the time and I didnt even know they had an opening act. I remember walking in and just being blown away by him.
I also saw Satriani at Riverfest and at the Orpheum with T-Ride. They were both great shows as well. |

This is a complete aside, but how come americans (like me) pronounce it satch-riani? Shouldn't it be sat-ri-ani with a T sound and not a CH sound?

[/ QUOTE ] Calling him "Satch" does not carry over to the pronunciation of his full name; I don't know anyone who listens to his music who would pronounce it Satch-riani rather than Sat-riani. |

Re: I Could Listen to Joe Satriani for Hours
I think he is a musicians musician. Myself, and all my friends that are musicians love him. Our friends who aren't often say what many people here have said:
Oh, he plays fast so what. -and the always favorite: He needs to have someone singing for him. I'm like WTF? His guitar is speaking. They don't seem to hear it. Anyhow, I got to go see him maybe eight years ago. Just him, not with G3. Anyhow, we get there and I didn't realize Stuart Hamm was playing bass for him. Holy Mother of all things great and small....when they started up the opening notes of 'always with me always with you' it was Stu tapping the lines out on the bass. It freaking rocked the house. The sound was perfect. Concert was perfect. I will always remember that show. |
