Keep in mind the speech writing job isnt as secure as you think/hope it is. If your boss loses the election, your position is gone over night. If the next elections happen to be bad for whatever party you are in your job AND your potential backup jobs are gone too.
Also, if you want to end up in DC you are better off starting in DC.
