If the other players are upset that raised blind with the option to reraise after the BB, then you're clearly playing nickel/dime poker and you can explain to them how: a) it's +EV for the rest of the table; and b) it's only another effing nickel! |

There are no real upsides to straddling other than gambooling it up and having fun. It can be useful to loosen up an overly tight table, but other than that, it's -EV (hence no reason to disallow it in a cash game).
