Re: Debate Time: Did my opponent play the flop well?
Also, he's in position and can take a free card/stik the rest in on his terms on the turn after he's improved vs you. There seems to be some merit to betting, though it might not have to be as big as he made it.

Re: Debate Time: Did my opponent play the flop well?
Ribbo was talking about "bluffing" not "betting" a dry side pot.

Re: Debate Time: Did my opponent play the flop well?
Are you really just moaning because you would have won? He played the flop fine, he needs to build a sidepot to win when he hits or bluff you out when he misses. Read 'mathematics of poker' if you want to understand why this bet is fine.

There's some seeeerrrriiiioouuss unjustified hate for betting into dry sidepots without the absolute nuts; it's ridiculous, and shows that people don't really understand poker all that well.

Re: Debate Time: Did my opponent play the flop well?
Zerberus is one of the bigger fishies on party and consistently makes plays like this. Why do you care if he played the hand well?

Re: Debate Time: Did my opponent play the flop well?
I think the hand's fine given stack sizes. The only thing Zerberus doesn't want here is for money to go in on the turn if he misses. He figures that with this bet, he either gets Ribbo to fold the flop (so he can't bet the turn), gets him to push and get it in 50/50, or else gets him to give him a free river. Building a sidepot and misrepresenting his hand for future streets could be beneficial when Ribbo calls as well.

Re: Debate Time: Did my opponent play the flop well?
I don't think it's a particularly bad play either. Generally only nits get really steamed at 'bluffing' into dry sidepots, but discussing whether a huge fish should make a particular play or not is fundamentally about the most useless thing I have ever heard of.
