The usual progression goes like this: Get some internships/crappy jobs Go work on the Hill for a few years Make connections with lobbyists Get a job lobbying Profit [/ QUOTE ] That's about right. |

Re: Becoming a Lobbyist
I knew lobbyists and DC and most of them started with either Hill work or campaign work and then moved on to the private sector. This is not a job you can just "get" with no experience.
From what I know, state lobbying can oftentimes be more lucrative than national lobbying b/c of the amount of money each state has at its discretion. The only state lobbyists I knew were an ex-GF's parents who both had law degrees and ran their own outfit in Alabama. Was very lucrative for them. |

As a side note, don't base career moves off of movies. That is not really how things work in DC or anywhere. |

Re: Becoming a Lobbyist
All you have to do to become a lobbyist is to convince a special interest group that you can get them an appropriation. But like others have said, the best way is work in DC to build connections. I high school classmate became a lobbyist by getting the local hospital as her first client. She won. Then she got a few other clients. Now she has a pretty sweet life. Only works a few hours a week and has her own house.
