Re: Do I accecpt this abnormal tip?
Get some help and have the check 'fixed' so it's now for $5k and pray it clears. You could go for $500 too.

Re: Do I accecpt this abnormal tip?
That reminds me of a Chinese billionaire's joke on his mistresses and wives, etc.
Give them a blank check and let them decide, if it's too high it bounces... Of course he'd prearrange how much is in any particular checking account, and it was mathematically elegant. Fair was okay, greedy was not. Cash it, for not to do that would be an insult. See Kramer's advice when Jerry's nana goes missing. |

Re: Do I accecpt this abnormal tip?
You answered your own question, imo.
[ QUOTE ] On one hand I was nice to her and she wanted to reward my service with $5 which is well above the average tip you'd expect from an old geezer most likely on a fixed income so it'd be respectful of me to accept the tip. [/ QUOTE ] |

Re: Do I accecpt this abnormal tip?
Personally, I likely wouldn't deposit that check, only due to the fact that the opportunity cost of trekking to the bank and spending the time just isn't worth $5 to me. But if it is to you, and you aren't too lazy, I see no problem in cashing her check.

Re: Do I accecpt this abnormal tip?
I would, because lots of old people (read as: people that lived thought the depression) keep insane tabs on their money, and that $5 could through her into a downward spiral that ends her (if she is still alive)

Re: Do I accecpt this abnormal tip?
[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] The next day she comes in and proceeds to write me a $5 check with "for: service" written on the line. I have a laugh about it with my buddies and proceed with my shift. [/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure why you find this so funny. [/ QUOTE ] Because she is tipping a bartender with a [censored] check! And the fact she is using a check at all. There is absolutely 0 reason for anyone to write checks for amounts that small. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Now I feel bad for her. On one hand I was nice to her and she wanted to reward my service with $5 which is well above the average tip you'd expect from an old geezer most likely on a fixed income so it'd be respectful of me to accept the tip. [/ QUOTE ] Although she may well be on a fixed income, the fact that she did did not have much cash on her the prior day does not mean that she is poor. [/ QUOTE ]' Only poor people pay for stuff with pennies and nickels. It's fact, look it up. |

Only poor people pay for stuff with pennies and nickels. It's fact, look it up. [/ QUOTE ] While the above is most likely true, she probably felt very good about herself for coming in later with her tip. I think it would be disrespectful to not acknowledge her kindness by sitting on the check. |
