Default Re: running hot at blackjack? dumb question

ok thanks for the replies but let me just clarify a few things as i was drunk when making the original post. In the casino i have been playing in they have two seperate blackjack games both with 6 decks but for one of them they use an automatic card shuffling machine. On the other table the dealer shuffles and there is about a 4 deck penetration. I have been playing both tables and using the hi-lo count method, this is probably completely useless at the table with an automatic card shuffler. can i gain an advantage at the table with no card shuffler using a simple card counting system, even with the poor rules?

with 66% penetration, d9 and ENHC, you're looking at a HA of about 0.64% off the top of the no-CSM shoe. this is quite a bit to overcome with a level-1 count especially with a relatively shallow cut. i'd worry first about just breaking even with a moderate spread, before figuring out if you can actually squeeze a long term advantage from these otherwise mediocre conditions.

counting this above game will give you cheap or free recreation at best. it will probably never generate anything resembling a livable income.

You could get a theoretical advantage with a huge bet spread, but the variance, and therefor the bankroll requirement, would be huge. If you had a casino with lots of tables like this, and no rules against mid-shoe entry, you could probably beat this game by back counting (start a count at the top of a shoe, and only play favorable counts, move to another table when the count goes south). It takes a pretty big pit to do this effectively. You do a lot more watching and counting than playing.

thinking about this...in the UK all the casinos are "club" size with perhaps one BJ pit of 6-10 tables max. OP said half the games are CSM so maybe we're talking 3-4 shoes to wong and hop around between. backbetting is also allowed so you don't technically need your own seat to play a hand (unless all the backbet spots are taken as well. it's pretty crowded on weekends but not sure about off-peak times). I'm fairly certain that seated players still make all the playing decisions - though I have heard of scenarios where whichever person bets MORE in the box takes precedent...probably not here though.

still a pretty marginal situation IMO, plus the bad rules require a higher true count to be profitable than average. if you choose not to play-all, you may also end up playing close to nothing as well. you might even get kicked out for loitering rather than advantage play.

there is a "supercasino" being slated for the Manchester area which could have many more BJ tables to hop around at. until then, one is playing with relatively high scrutiny in the UK.
