Re: Hold-em on television.. enough already?
Other games lack the "five minutes to learn, lifetime to master" quality that makes holdem perfect for a mass TV audience.

Re: Hold-em on television.. enough already?
I don't mind the hold'em. im just sick of the formats. HSP is clearly the best poker show going. that thanksgiving FTP tourney was lame. poker after dark is lame. pokerdome is lame (actually painful to watch). it almost makes me want to watch WPT again.

Re: Hold-em on television.. enough already?
NLHE is the game most fitting for TV. All of the huge bluffs and plays. The major all-in moves that are really suspensful and all. You don't see those in Limit Hold'em or any other Limit games.
For people who are more into it, split pot games may be more interesting and fun. But the general public thinks otherwise. |

Re: Hold-em on television.. enough already?
I know how the OP feels. I have a rough time trying ro get buddies to play anything but NLHE at home games. NLHE is the only thing that most people have ever seen on the TV

Re: Hold-em on television.. enough already?
I agree with the OP. There is way too much poker on television now. I used to try to watch everything, but now most of it bores me.
With the impending doom of internet poker in the US, I think the situation will take care of itself. I think in the next 6 months or so, you will start to see much less poker on TV. Out of sight, out of mind. |

Re: Hold-em on television.. enough already?
keep nl on tv .. that way people will keep thinking they can learn by watching pros. I this all of us would love to see the great players of each game go at it. But we are def the minority on that one.

Re: Hold-em on television.. enough already?
I think a PLO cash game would be very exciting to watch and shouldn't be that hard for the general public to follow. Now all we need is a brave soul(s) to make it!

Re: Hold-em on television.. enough already?
NLHE is excellent for television, and I don't mind watching it, but unfortunately most shows end up just being an all-in frenzy. When 60% of a show is shortstacked players with an M of 5 going all-in with A6, I get bored.
It would be very interesting to see more cash games than just HSP, preferably deep stacked. |
