(Except that in tournaments it matters whether you realize or not that you will perpetually get the same hand.)

Actually, I just realized this could be relevant in non-tournament situations. I imagine it would be much easier to become world class at playing a single hand than it is to become world class at straight poker. The same goes for reading peoples' betting patterns.

Sklansky,

Do you remember when you accused me of mangling your questions? And how everyone comes to your defense. Well, I am so glad that you asked this question in this way. Notice, please that almost every reply here was by someone trying to explain to others just what in the hell you are asking. I feel vindicated. This thread proves that no one ever really KNOWS WHAT IN THE HELL IT IS THAT YOU ARE ASKING. You should now see that I was the only honest person here. I'm never in the kiss the guru's butt mode like most of your "other" fans. I just try to help so I tell it like it is. What the hell are you asking?

leaponthis,

Everyone quickly figured out, and has moved on to discussing, this rather interesting and novel question. And even the initial confusion wasn't useless, as I happen to think gobgobgob's "mulligan" restating of the OP was illuminating for this situation, and possibly something to think about in the future, as well.

this is completely dependant on the game. In HU maybe something like K8o. in 5 handed tight game maybe KQs... 5 handed super-aggressive game A8o...full ring game ill say AJo.

i'm not a LHE expert and i might be very wrong on any of these. those are my best answers off the top of my head.

edit: upon further thought i might too "loose" in HU. i think I am reasonably selective in the others. i think the general tendancy of most would be to be too satisfied with a mediocre hand.

how valuable is AT, ever? HU it is certainly valuable, but it isn't even close to the value of AA- which you are losing out on forever when you take AT every time... AT>folding in many situations, but by how much? is it worth losing out on your rare premium hands? blind defense is the most important area of gain youre probably going to have with your hand...how much better is AT than a random hand for typical blind defense?

As an aside, how big does a PT sample size have to be for this to work?

-Sort all hands by winrate
-Find lowest hand where winrate > overall winrate
