$800 to have a shop fix a head gasket isn't expensive. There's a ton of disassembly that goes on to replace a head gasket. Usually shops are charging $1k+.

I'd look around craigslist and see if you can find a mechanic to do it on the side. Just make sure he is (or was) ASE certified and knows what he's doing.
The parts for the whole job will probably be around $100, so it's just labor. You can probably find someone to do the whole job for around $500 or less if you look hard enough. I realize though, that it's tough to find on such short notice since you'll need a car. |

on ur car, it would be pretty easy for you to do it yourself, those inline 4's are really ez to work on. Check some forums, and if ur in the shytown area I might be able to help u out, I also have an extra car if u wanted to use that.
